Conversion from LapBand to Sleeve on May 8, 2014.

Recommended Posts

In 2009 I got Lap Band and lost 150 lbs in about 2 years but wasn't getting enough nutrition and became anemic. I got the band loosened and got healthy again and maintained. Then I got pregnant and had the band loosened and after I gave birth to my son we discovered my stomach had slipped up into the band and now the band was travelling. Throughout all of this time I was damaging my esophagus too. So, on May 8, 2014, 3 days ago, I had the Lap Band removed and converted to a gastric sleeve. I have had a Migraine for the past two days that I have been home and finally this morning woke up with only a slight headache! Must be a Mothers Day gift! Biggest problem I'm having is this pain in my stomach after every sip I take! Ugh! Please tell me this does go away! -signed Learning My Sleeve

I am almost your exact story just one year ago. Instead of a pregnancy I had back to back major surgeries and they emptied my band. The only other difference was you were WAY more successful with your band.

I was revised May 8th 2013, and yes it gets better. I was told the Migraine is a mix of things, lack of sugar, calories, caffine, and the zofran or similar meds from your time in the hospital. It does get better. I think I had those spasmy cramps for about a week. Try sipping something warm, Decaf tea or broth. That was much easier for my new sleeve than anything cold. I know some say the exact opposite, try it both ways. Welcome to sleeveville population:awesome!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
