I am 5 days post op today, lost 19 lbs since 5/1 which I am so excited about! My heart rate is real fast, I felt it in my sleep & checked it this morning & it was 167. Has anyone else had this? I have my dr appt tomorrow.

That is really fast. Mine has been between 100-115. Neither my PCP or my surgeon seems worried. It's probably a good thing you have a doctor appointment.

If this condition occurs all the time it is called Tachycardia. Here is a link. http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditions/Arrhythmia/AboutArrhythmia/Tachycardia-Fast-Heart-Rate_UCM_302018_Article.jsp I don't think it is a fallout from the surgery. I would not view it as normal.

If this condition occurs only when you were asleep, it is probably related to sleep apnea. Heart palpitations or your heart racing upon waking. See http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/health/spirit/get-to-sleep-guide/women-and-sleep-apnea/

I had sleep apnea prior to gastric bypass surgery (RNY). Some nights I would wake up and find my heart racing furiously. All these symptoms seemed to disappear around 3 weeks after surgery.

Anyways, this should give you some questions to ask your doctor when you see him/her tomorrow.

Fast heart rate after surgery can be signs of bleeding, call doctor ASAP

Do you take thyroid meds? The same thing happened to me after gp. My heart was racing and I thought I was going to die! Called 911 and the ambulance picked me up. I found out that I was getting in too much thyroid medicine and my dosage had to be reduced. It is very important to see your pcp after surgery if you are on meds like thyroid, blood pressure, etc. The meds may have to be reduced or eliminated.

I am 1 year and 6 week out and have not had any problems since.

I had similar problems with the rapid heart rate and found my thyroid med dosage was too high

Hope you feel better soon.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
