I saw this info posted early in the summer and wondered what it was, also! When I learned what an NG tube was, the "visual" of it scared the hell out of me and I ordered my bracelet! Not much freaks me out at all, but the thought of me being out of it and knowing what could happen if someone put one of those in me without knowing about my band scares the bujeezees out of me!

(Wow, that was a major confusing run-on sentence...sorry!) :omg:

Welcome back Stef--weren't you on vacation? How was it? If not...glad to see you posting again!!!

You're such a research expert!!!

Thank you, ma'am! No, vacation isn't for another three weeks...but I'm counting the days! I'm really starting to get excited about it! When I go, I will be baraging y'all with pics like that weird uncle and his slide shows! LOL

Unfortunately, I've been very busy with my grandfather. He's always been healthy as a horse, and this summer (at 90) he gets lymphoma. He's been through numerous rounds of chemo, surgery, is on oxygen, is taking physical therapy...you name it. So we are at the hospital every single day since he just started radiation therapy. And then coordinating his oxygen therapy, physical therapy, taking his meals, taking him to the library three times a week (I get my thirst for reading/knowledge from him)...I'm a busy girl, to say the least. But he's doing VERY well, all things considered. He actually went to the gym with me today and walked the track upstairs while I worked out! He's amazing...we are blessed, to be sure. It just takes all our time to keep him that way!

Here's a pic I took of hubby with my Mom and Grampa in my back yard on Memorial Day, and one of Grampa with the big 'ole lobster hubby threw on the grill for him. I've got a good lookin' family! :o

Doc's orders

Yes, I figured it had something to do with that lol but I was curious if that was because of the band. I'm a former medical transcriptionist, so most of the terminology is still tucked away on a shelf in my brain...useless stuff most of the time unless I'm reading charts, like when is that? I wish I still had the pharmacology reference software on my puter though, that would be helpful at times. hehe

I'm sorry...I should have been more specific. My bad! Yes, it was my band doctor that said that. And since I have always had a bit of sensitivity to them anyhow, I made sure it was on my Bracelet. In other threads, that is what others have put on the bracelet, as well. So I guess other docs make the same recommendation? I don't know for sure, but have always thought they were rougher on the stomach, so since erosion can be a problem for bandsters, this may be why the no nsaids.

YUP! Here ya go...

NSAIDs and Peptic Ulcers

A peptic ulcer is a sore that forms in the lining of the stomach or the duodenum (the beginning of the small intestine). An ulcer can cause a gnawing, burning pain in the upper abdomen; nausea; vomiting; loss of appetite; weight loss; and fatigue. Most peptic ulcers are caused by infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). But some peptic ulcers are caused by prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium.

Normally the stomach has three defenses against digestive juices: mucus that coats the stomach lining and shields it from stomach acid, the chemical bicarbonate that neutralizes stomach acid, and blood circulation to the stomach lining that aids in cell renewal and repair. NSAIDs hinder all of these protective mechanisms, and with the stomach's defenses down, digestive juices can damage the sensitive stomach lining and cause ulcers.

NSAID-induced ulcers usually heal once the person stops taking the medication. To help the healing process and relieve symptoms in the meantime, the doctor may recommend taking antacids to neutralize the acid and drugs called H2-blockers or proton-pump inhibitors to decrease the amount of acid the stomach produces.

Medicines that protect the stomach lining also help with healing. Examples are bismuth subsalicylate, which coats the entire stomach lining, and sucralfate, which sticks to and covers the ulcer.

If a person with an NSAID ulcer also tests positive for H. pylori, (this is what mjsafari's husband has...now I know what it is! I had no clue before) he or she will be treated with antibiotics to kill the bacteria. Surgery may be necessary if an ulcer recurs or fails to heal, or if complications like severe bleeding, perforation, or obstruction develop.

Anyone taking NSAIDs who experiences symptoms of peptic ulcer should see a doctor for prompt treatment. Delaying diagnosis and treatment can lead to complications and the need for surgery.

Stef glad to hear your grandfather is doing better, he surely does not look that old in the photo!

"bracelet" How does all that fit on it? I did not look at the site yet, but it looks like a lot. I never thougth to get one, but after Dawn's experience, I might just do it now!!

Dawn glad you are OK! I know how it feels to go through something like that with no answers. Now you have to pray it does not happen again! For now, smile and take care!

suzzzie you are doing great in your contest! You are lucky to take advantage of the trainer deal. When I watch the Biggest Loser, I wish I could have a Jillian for a day! GREAT NSV It feels so great to fit into the next size down!

NSV for me too! I bought a new pair of size 16 pants, modern ones, cream color with brown and and like a slate pin stripe. I wore them to work yesterday with a black sweater and black shoes. I received compliments all day. then I saw my 22 year old son, and he was giving me a hard time, telling me I was all trying to be young again, whatever!! Son's!!! His wife was saying I looked nice, and told him to be be quiet! At least he noticed!!

I have been having a really hard time getting to the gym. I had planned to go to a 8:30 am weight lifting class and then take a 9:30 step class, and here I sit. I will leave and go to the step. I really need to get there, I hate when I am so much in a rut with the gym. why???? not sure!!

Have a great weekend everyone. hope to hear from Toni and where is Monica these days? Or Holly? We miss you if you are reading.

DId ya'll check out my Ticker?!?!?! It moved!! Lol. Thats right, it went frmo 33 lost to 48 lost! I lost 15.something in one month!! I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!

OK, well... I still got A LOT to lose, but I will take EVERY pound lost and be dang proud of it! It's certainly not 'easy' the way some people think it is!

Not much else going on. I was going to go to the Zoo with some friends today, but woke up to thunderstorms... so looks like we might go to a movie instead... I was looking forward to walking the zoo! And this evening (if it ever quits raining) we're going to a HUGE corn maze. I"m so excited! Last year we walked the maze for about 2 hours. We'll see how we do this year! And you better BELIEVE that I will be counting it as exercise!

TOMORROW we are going to a town about an hour north of Kansas City. They have a beautiful 'park' with a nice lake and several hiking trails. :o I wanna do the 4.2 mile trail... we'll see how THAT one goes!

I hope ya'll have fabulous weekends!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
