Extreme Bloating

Recommended Posts

I am a little over 3 years out after gastric bypass. No complications, I have reached my goal weight (within one year) and I am maintaining within 10 pounds of my original goal weight. For the past month, I have averaged 1200 calories, 114 grams Protein and 22 carbs per day. Additionally, I drink 8-12 cups of Water a day and exercise moderately. This is my question / concern: I am aware that gas, flatulence and gastric bypass go hand in hand but sometimes (even not near a meal time), I will go from a flat stomach to looking like I am 6-8 months pregnant. The pressure is very uncomfortable and I don't always have access to something like Gas-X. I do have some extra skin due to losing 140 pounds in 12 months. Has anyone had this kind of problem and if so, how have they dealt with it? I cannot afford a Tummy Tuck, so that isn't an option. Any comments and thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need any further information to better respond to my concerns.

Thank you,

Beth

I had to go back to logging anything I put in my mouth and seeing a nutritionist. I never leave home without Altoid peppermints or enteric coated peppermint oil. I do carry both beano and gax x strips. And recently started what is called the Fodmap diet which is an elimination diet to remove anything that can ferment in your digestive tract. It's for IBS sufferers.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I can go from a size 16-18 pants back into a size 22-24 in one day due to bloating. Looks like I'm going to pop out triplets and I'm miserable. Ugh. But basically what they have said is that my food is just not moving through my system fast enough and not being absorbed correctly. (duh!) So it ferments and makes gasses that bloat me out. Probiotics help kill the extra bacteria that I don't need, but for all practical purposes, I just need to limit some of the other foods I eat. Hope this is helpful or at least gives you something to talk with your doctor or nutritionist about.

I suffer with the same issue" Bloating" . I recently made a trip to the Vitamin Shop and purchased a vitamin called Digest-All. The guy that works there told me that it would help with the bloating. So, I'm going to give this a try and see how it works. But I definitely know what you mean when you say down today and up like you 4 months pregnant tomorrow....smh. I forgot also I changed my milk to lactose free because milk is what I use I'm my Protein Shakes. That really made a difference....

This past weekend I ended up in the emergency room for the same thing - extreme bloating that was causing excessive pain due to pressure on my organs and intestines. In the process now of trying to figure out why and what caused it. I had my surgery 5 years ago and this is the first time it has happened.

I'm 18 mo post surgery and have suffered from this for about the last 6 mo. Bloating is one thing but extreme gassiness is another. Some days I feel like its just seeping out of me and extremely odorous!!! I can empty a room in seconds!!! Very embarrassing. I find that I'm good for a day or two after I've taken a laxative but I don't think this is something I should rely on regularly..no pun intended. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
