Gallbladder - Complication of Surgery

Recommended Posts

Mine started about 3 months ago with what I thought was a runner's cramp or runner's stitch. I run roughly 3-4 miles a day and would experience a sharp pain or cramp under my right bottom rib. Then the pain would come and go all the time, didn't matter what I was doing. Last month I had what I would call my first "attack", usually at night. It was like someone lit a flame in my stomach that would radiate up my chest accompanied by horrible pressure that would take my breath away and severe vomiting. It would last for 3 hours and then finally go away. I made an appointment w/ my primary care doctor thinking that it was severe acid reflux. Primary care DR referred me to by gastric doctor. Had an ultrasound done and that's all she wrote.

Some years ago I was told I had some tiny gallstones but nothing terrible. That was before I was sleeved. Can you describe what the pain is like from gallstones? I have started to wonder recently if I am having gallstone attacks.

Is there anyone who never took medication for gallbladder post-surgery, and has also had no problems since?

Most like to give gb meds postop.

Had the gallbladder removed! Rough the first week but I'm back in the saddle. Things are much better! No problems otherwise, with exception of Constipation. Will take that any day over the gallbladder pain.

I had my gall bladder removed when I was 18 due to complications with my birth control (Remeber YAZ?!) It caused me to have pancreatitis as well and omg I felt like I was having a heart attack, sharp pains in my chest that were so bad I actually passed out. The recovery for me was fairly easy and I was up and going out with out issue the day after.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
