I need to do that as well. Somehow I'm afraid to do it.... I wonder why. I am scheduled for June 12 th .... Already have insurance approval etc.. You will be about 10 days ahead. It will be great to have friends out there to share this experience with. My husband's eyes glaze over when I try to talk to hum about it. He is very supportive but I'm not sure he totally gets it!

I couldn't find a June Sleevers forum. If there is one already please direct me! Well anyway, I'm glad excited that I finally got a date, June 5th. I really wanted it to be sometime during the end of May but that didn't happen. My family will be going out of town, to Disney to be specific, a few days after my surgery because my cousin from Mexico will be making his fist trip here. I'm so sad I won't be joining them but my parents keep telling me I need to look at the bigger picture, or should I say smaller. Haha. I have my preop appointment May 27th. I'm curious as to what kind of diet he will put me on! I'm just excited to get this going! So who else has a June Date? Who is hoping for a June Date? Are you ready yet? Nervous? Excited?

My day is June 3rd. Excited and nervous!

Seems June 4th is a popular date! I'm having my sleeve done on this day as well. Started my two week pre-op diet on day 2. It's hasn't been that hard. 4shakes a day with up to 5 additional items like sf Jello, pudding, Soup and veggies. I realize just how much head hunger I really have! I am slightly nervous, but more excited on this journey for a healthy mind and Body! And it won't be bad to look as great as you feel! This is a very exciting time and I'm so ready to get it going!

Hirgirl, congrats on starting the pre-op diet. What kind of shakes are you doing? Are they good? What Soups have you been eating?

Wow! That is insane! Amazing! Have you had your surgery yet? Are you drinking enough Water. I know I struggle with getting all my water.

Surgery scheduled for June 4.....I drink water constantly but I was told once I have the surgery I may not be able to unless I add something to it.... They call it water nausea ... A co worker who had his surgery 2 years ago still can't drink water unless he adds something to it. Have u been reading about the hairloss? I think that is what is freaking me out the most....it's not like a woman can shave her head and be considered "hot" like some guys can!!!! Lol!
Apex4me, the prospect of losing hair has me freaked out too! Are you doing a Vitamin and Biotin regime now? Consider starting it while you do the pre-op diet, if your doctor will approve it. I figure getting that process ingrained will help me later on. I've read that Hair loss doesn't happen to everyone, but, if it does happen, you'll notice it most around month 3 post op. Have y'all read or heard the same thing?

My surgery will be sometime in June but I am getting so scared. Can someone pump me up for it? Like I'm scared about something going terribly wrong in surgery or dying or leak. Who all have gotten it done and were completely successful?? Am getting so scared

Ssbills, it is very normal to be scared. This a major surgery, but YOU CAN DO IT! Believe in the decision you've made & know that the probability for complications is actually very low. Allow yourself to get excited about starting a new chapter in your life! Approach each new day with the courage of conviction and knowledge that you are amazing to have decided to put yourself and your health first! You go, girl!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
