Imus show suspended due to racial comments

Should Steve Harvey get the boot for his ignorance that I'm listening to right now? I don't think he should.

File a complaint and let's see!!

Now that is IGNORANT!

I would agree with you that was ignorant if I wasn't being sarcastic. And I don't mean I literally wish I was black. I'm trying to make a point. I'm proud of who I am as I think we should all be. Is being sarcastic ignorant?

Sunta - I agree, no surprise. It's funny. Back in college the exact same example was an a-ha for me, in a course I was taking called "Appreciation and Tolerance for Diversity." Also was an inventory we were asked to do at a store, to make a determination on whether or not the store would adequately serve the needs of X other ethnicity. We had to look at things like - the colors of clothing and what skin tones they were complimentary to, the type of hair and skin care products - things as "trivial" as what types of barettes were stocked, what the Shampoo directions were, etc. You know, those hippy free thought classes all of us liberal arts people like to take. (That's entirely my own tongue in my cheek). It was not only an eye opener, it made me very sad... to be able to see the problems that were invisible before, for my own lack of information and understanding.

Maybe you could have tried to educate yourself a little better. By you telling this story it is clear that you still haven't learned anything. Why should he except your apology when it's clear you still to today don't even realize how ignorant your comment was. Perhaps that's why he didn't accept your apology.

Have you ever been to the tolerance museum in LA? The Holocaust museum in D.C? The internet is a great source of knowledge (some good and bad). Libraries are great. Talk to people, be willing to listen.

Can you show me where I said He should accept my apology? Didn't I say that if he never forgave me for the rest of his life I would understand? I don't think some of you are quoting me accurately. If I wrote somewhere that he SHOULD accept my apology I certainly didn't mean to because I don't feel that way. But I don't think I did.

You are absolutely right about Al Sharpton not making Imus say what he said. But Al Sharpton will jump on anything he can to get his stupid face on television. And actually Al Sharpton being a race-bating media whore isn't really the issue here. Al Sharpton does not get to decide what people say. Just like we cannot decide what dip-sh-- Sharpton says. But if you had to go through the 35 years worth of Imus shows and the thousands of press conferences that Sharpton has done, who would you say is closer to inciting a race war? I for one think it is Sharpton.

I am not a Sharpton supporter per se, but I think you are way off base. I have met Sharpton and I didn't get that at all...Al jumping his big head in front of the camera all the time doesn't change anything. I completely agree that he's hungry for attention.

May I ask you what it is about me that makes it not okay to be sarcastic? And would you also let me know what the criteria is for sarcasm being ok to say. I'm just curious what points I don't qualify for.

Did I say it wasn't okay to be sarcastic? I see you have taken Imus' firing to HEART, you should start a fan club!:clap2:

Someone said in an earlier post "what if he would have done this in a doctor's office?" That is rediculous. HE DIDN'T DO IT IN A DOCTOR'S OFFICE. He did it on his radio/tv show where he has been expressing his opinions for 35 years. Like people said earlier, they listened to Howard Stern and decided they didn't like his stuff so they turned him off. That is their freedom. You have every right not to support him if he says something you don't like.

MSNBC and CBS would not have fired him if there wasn't the pressure from the groups. GUARANTEED. I am listening to clips on Directv right now of the Steve Harvey radio show. As I type this I am listening to his bit that is making fun of white, southern, rednecks. He is being very stereotypical. A. It's pretty damned funny if you ask me. I'm cracking up.

B. Where is the public outcry from Al Sharpton on Steve Harvey's politically incorrect comments? Oh that's right, he's black so he can say whatever he wants. Geez, wish I was black so I could say whatever I wanted to.

Comparing him to Howard Stern says what about him? Stern is a prejudice, sexist, disgusting human being.

And it's R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S...Couldn't resist after the 10th time!!

Actually you did say it wasn't ok to be sarcastic. Well you said it depends on who is saying it. So I am curious which people it is acceptable from and which people it isn't. Also, I should start a fan club for who? I'm not an Imus fan, in fact I think his show is pretty boring. But I do think you have an excellent suggestion as far as starting a fan club for what I am a fan of and the reason I started this thread. Great idea to start a fan club for the First Amendment. Good thinkin' girl!

I agree that Stern is a prejudice, sexist, disgusting human being. You are preaching to the choir about this issue. I couldn't agree with you more. But isn't Howard Stern allowed to have civil rights and liberties? Aren't we all allowed to have that? I hope so, and you should hope so to, because if they take that away from us, then we will not be able to have message boards like this where you and I can both post our opinions even though they disagree. I don't want that taken away from me. I'm sure you don't either.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
