Need reccomendations on preparation

Recommended Posts

I got my probable surgery date this week of April 29. I am trying to figure out what I need to do before going in to be totally ready. I want to have as easy of a recovery as possible as I have three kids, one with a disablility.

My doc told me I needed to loose 10-15 lbs before surgery. I have been on a partial iquid diet this week, and plan on going on a full liquid diet starting Monday. I'm worried about loosing that much in such a short amount of time.

I used to have three to four bottle Dr Peppers a day but I have only let myself have one a day this week and I am currently finishing my last one. I have been trying to drink 80-120 ounces of Water a day but that is sooooooo hard.

I love to exercise and will make sure I do something every day for the next ten days for an hour or more.

Any other tips on how to make recvoery as quick and easy as possible???

Sounds like you're doing it but definitely detox from caffeine prior. I drank my diet coke right up to 2 days before surgery and the withdrawal headaches were killer.

Get some Water flavoring drops like Milo! Also sugar free popsicles will count as liquid.

You can do this! I agree, get rid of the caffeine so you detox before surgery. I also would start practicing eating REALLY sloooowly, and not drinking for 30 minutes before and after you eat. This is very difficult to do, and something I wish I had done differently before surgery.

You will do great!

Thanks for the info. I really want to be one of those who can just get up and walk around within a few days. I have a very high tolerance for pain and I can't stand being stuck in one place for too long.

I read about so many who have complications and I want to do anything I can not to have any of those side effects if

I can help it. I know that some are unpreventable but I want to do everything I can to make sure my body is ready

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
