Recommended Posts

Im on to soft foods on Sunday but my NUT's diet is very unclear about what soft foods really are. So is it just boiling the meat Protein? Help.

I did a copy & paste of my soft foods. Not everyone's is the same, so you might want to y your Dr's office first. But, this is what I ate from Weeks 3 - 6. Hope it helps

DAILY GOALS:

500 calories per day

3 meals eaten over 20-30 minutes each (1/4-1/2 cup a meal)

Drink 64 ounces (8 glasses) of Fluid per day

Protein intake: 15 grams a meal / 45 grams a day

Below is a list of low-fat Protein food choices for this stage. We do not recommend any non-protein foods unless you are able to eat 45 grams of protein each day. Start with ¼ cup and if you are full stop eating. Remember to always eat your protein first.

Estimated Foods (1/4 cup) Protein (grams)

Canned turkey in Water 16

Low fat cheese, block 15

Baked fish 14

Canned chicken in Water 13

Canned tuna in water 10

Tofu, extra firm 10

Canned ham in water 9

Sliced deli meats 9

Cottage cheese 8

Ricotta cheese 8

Shredded cheese 7

Egg substitutes or egg whites 6

Canned turkey chili 4

Smooth Peanut Butter, natural (1 Tablespoon) 4

Canned Beans, mashed 3

Bean Soup 3

Condiments: mustard, ketchup, low-fat or fat-free mayo or salad dressings are okay.

Domika03 what are the numbers next to each item, like the 14 next to the baked fish?

I don't know about others, but I could not handle Peanut Butter during this phase. I know it is considered a soft food, but my new tummy did not like it at all. I also had fat free refried Beans on my list during the soft food phase.

Those are grams of Protein listed next to the foods. That is a great list.

I would say stick with dark meat chicken during the soft food stage, and ground at that. I ate a lot of Beans, whole or refried.

For my soft food phase I was allowed:

--any meat that could be easily cut with a fork

--cooked green veggies that can be cut with a fork (nothing raw, no starchy veggies like potatoes or peas)

--fruit that could be cut with a fork (ripe mangoes or bananas sure, as long as you can fit them in your daily carb allowance, which I couldn't, ripe peaches, berries, etc. No to apples, oranges, anything tough, hard, or membranous).

--cooked, soft Beans and pulses (lentils)

--nut butters

--dairy

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
