2.5 weeks post op - down 30lbs

Recommended Posts

Is that normal? I'm having a hard time getting Protein and fluids bc I'm just not hungry and I wonder if that's why so much weight has come off? Anyone else at that number at that time?

I can't remember how much I lost in the 1st few weeks, but I do remember not eating more than 1/2 can of Soup per day for weeks and weeks. I was slowly able to eat more as the days went past. It'll be the same for you. I took the list of recommended daily Protein and carb intake as goals to shoot for once I was well past the surgery, not something I should be taking in starting the 1st day post-op.

I was supposed to be eating at least 600 calories a day, but I know I was eating less than 200/day for the 1st 2 weeks.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one shedding serious weight at this point.

I'm 12 days out and this morning I went to the NUT for a weigh-in and consultation. The weigh-in revealed that I've lost 20 pounds since leaving the hospital, and 28 since the surgery. The NUT was considerably surprised and slightly concerned. He green-lit me for more sugar in the form of 100% fruit juice drinks each day (200 ml). I'm going back next week--if I lose another 20, he'll be officially worried, and me as well.

Even though I might be shedding too fast, it's kind of hard not to feel excited.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
