my boyfriend doesn't approve of the surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi. Chad! Aren't these posters amazing? I love them all and this site has helped me when I couldn't count on anyone. I'm going to echo Madame Reverie and be blunt . The REAL reason he 'a not supportive is the same as my husbands reason: the men are AFRAID that once the weight is off, you'll be so hot that you' have a the men out there ogling you and that you may end up leaving him . Sorry to be blunt but I am quoting almost verbatim what was said to me. And know what? Good - let them think that. when you're overweight , it's easy for others to dehumanize you - make you think you have no feelings so they can be the controller F*** that ! You take care of yourself- YOU matter now and If he loves you now , he 'll love you then. OK , I'm done. All the best you!

Chad. Everyone has given you some great advice. All I want to say to you is you must love yourself first. Having this surgery is not easy at all. So do not stress yourself about being lazy. If you and your boyfriend are meant to be then he will come around. He sounds like he has some insecurities that he needs to deal with. Good luck to you.

Chad, I asked my husband to read some of these forums on Bariatric Pal - the good, bad and the ugly. Plus I showed him that I had done my research and had the medical test ,nutritionist, GP, surgeon and psychiatrist review. I told him that I wanted him to read up on what I had researched because I planned on going to through with the surgery regardless because it has been my life that was at risk and I was no longer willing to stand by and let that happen any longer. I wanted him to be part of this monumental decision that I had made but that regardless I was booked for surgery and wasn't planning on cancelling. To my surprise, he actually did read through the forums and came away with more knowledge and a supportive view point. That was at the beginning of May. I had surgery on May 14th and we both couldn't be happier!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
