I know that everyone loses at their own pace but I seem to be losing really slow. I had surgery on January 13th 2014 and I am only down 48 pounds. I'm 11 weeks out so 2 months and 3weeks. I haven't lost anything for the last 3 weeks. I switched up my foods today to to see if that helps. I'm not drinking any shakes right now. I tried to go back to shakes but they make me gag now. I started at a how weight of 484 sw was 422 and now I am 375. It just seems slow to me. I started off with 5 pounds a week then I slowed to nothing. Uggh I just thought I would lose more by now since I was a higher weight. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

I had surgery on January 16, 2014, just around the same time as you. I have only lost 40 pounds and am completely stalled, too. I know that this can be part of the process but it is very discouraging. One thing that I have been told is to get to the gym. I'm trying and made it there last weekend but during the week is really tough for me. Anyway, I feel like I'm following the plan, I keep a journal, and still I'm stalled. I had stalled at 30 pounds, too. I was told to up my Protein and stop weighing myself. lol. That did work that time. But, I feel your pain and hope that someone has some good suggestions!! I really hope that I'm not that one person who won't lose the weight!!!

Follow your plan. No matter what your weight is doing, follow your plan. Sometimes you'll lose quickly. Sometimes more slowly. And sometimes not at all. Your response is a l w a y s the same. Follow your plan. Stay positive. Stay patient. Stay away from the scales for at least a week (two would be even better). Focus your energy on following your plan as close to the letter as you possibly can. Maintain a food log which, next to the surgery, I believe to be the most powerful tool you can have in your arsenal. And exercise at least three days a week.

It is so easy to fall into the trap of measuring your success by the number on the scale. And so wrong. Every day that you follow your plan is a huge success. Every day you are practicing the all-important lifestyle changes. And that is what will get you to your goal. Focus on that. Embrace that. Commit to that. Trust that. And the weight will take care of itself. To say nothing of the fact that your journey will be so much less stressful.

DL 's advice could not be better. He mentioned exercise, but I would like to stress it's importance in the process. I started at 331 pounds and at that weight could barely move. As I lost I began to increase my exercise and was congratulating myself that I was going for walks now several times a week, this, of course, was better than no exercise at all. I received a Fit Bit for my birthday in February. A Fit Bit tracks your activity. I was very surprised to find out that many days I was barely getting 5000 steps in, let alone the recommended 10,000. It made me challenge myself to increase my activity level. And the weight is really coming off again!

Ask yourself, if your activity has stalled or plataued. Ratcheting that up will probably break your stall, IF YOU STAY AT IT. One time will not do the job. :)

Another thing that has helped me is upping my Water intake. Make sure you are always getting around 80 ounces a day, more is better.

Success does not happen by itself. This takes dedication and hard work. DL WAS also correct about it all being worth it on the other side. You have the tools, make the most of them!

I lost 130 lbs walking at least three times a week. Very few of us on this forum have historically been big fans of exercise and understandably so. Take it nice and easy in the beginning. Make sure your exercise goals are realistic and sustainable. I started out walking 20 minutes each time. Today I walk a little over three miles, every other day, three times a week. And I recently started doing strength training (Total Gym) every other day, three days a week. Exercise does not have to be synonymous with working your body to total exhaustion to be effective. Keep it realistic, keep it sustainable and most importantly as Carol said - keep at it. If you haven't tried it this will be hard to believe but - exercise quickly becomes quite addictive. Commit to it for 90 days and your body and your mind will thank you!

Thanks everyone! I have been trying to walk more. I just have really bad knees and they hurry so bad. I used to take ibuprofen but obviously I can't take that anymore. I'm so ready for the summer. I know I will be able to get out of the house more. This winter has sure sucked! Lbs. I talked to my nut and she doesnt want me on shakes anymore. She wants me on all foods. Which is really hard I get full so easy. Its hard to get all my Protein in. I know I'm down inches because I can't fit anything anymore. Lol but thanks again everyone. And I definitely feel you esskay77 on the only one not losing. I have been feeling that way to. Everyone that had surgery around the same time as me is down 55+ pounds. We can do this! We will start moving again. Once we can get outside and move around more. I feel like I have cabin fever lbvs. I also stalled. I had a stall at 24 pounds for over two weeks.

Oh do I get the knee pain!!! When I started this journey that is what kept me down! As you loose the knee pain gets better. I was shocked how much I could do with NO PAIN! For every pound you loose you are taking five pounds of pressure off your knees. Going down stairs was an exercise in pain management. I still stop at the top of the stairway and grab the rail to begin a slow walk down, only to realize that I can run down them with no pain. AMAZING! I found a recumbant elyptical trainer at the YMCA that I used A LOT at the beginning. Since I was sitting, it didn't bother my knees. I used that for nearly the first 100 pounds lost!

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
