When did you start eating meat?

Recommended Posts

My doctor let me after 6 weeks, but I've heard of some others waiting longer than that before they ate beef depending on how it's prepared. When I ate it, I felt fine, no ill effects at 6 weeks out.

I cooked crock pot chicken in sauce about 4 weeks post op, and did not chew a small piece very well. It stuck and I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. I backed down to Soups, refried Beans, etc. for 2 more weeks, and I now try to chew anything very slowly like I am supposed to. That is the biggest thing in my opinion, along with no liquids with the meal. Just sample small bites and get comfortable with it. Good luck!

I could have pureed meat four weeks after surgery, soft meat (could be cut with a fork) eight weeks after surgery. Nothing that required a knife to cut (steak, pork chops, for example) until six months after surgery.

I was surprised at my two week post op when my doc said I could start eating soft tender cooked meats with no sauce on them. I had made my hubby some bison stew in the crockpot and it was so tender. I also have had about 1/4 oz. grilled bison burger. You just don't want it to be dry..always tender cooked. Last night I cooked him a steak on the grill, I ate a couple of bites. No problems.....what does your doc say??

I started eating beef Jerky around week 12. I started off with the shredded jerky, my NUT wasn't so sure, but I told her I had already been eating the jerky for a week or two. A few weeks after that I started eating the nuggets. I have yet to try a piece of steak or pork, mainly because I just don't have a desire to, same goes for chicken.< /p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
