Hard time with 2 week pre-op diet :-(

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else have a really hard time? My emotions have been crazy, with mid-terms this was the worst time for me to start this. I feel hungry and on edge, any tricks that got you through it (besides gum and water)?

Hi , I have been on the pre-diet for 7 days now. My surgery is next Thursday, and I am going through a lot of emotions right now. The first 3 days of the diet in the later afternoon and evening were the most difficult. I am able to drink herbal tea on my diet so that has helped when I feel really hungry. I also have a horrible cold I am getting over right now, so I have not been as hungry as usual. Keeping as busy as I can has helped keep my mind off food. Looking towards the future is worth the effort of getting past this part. This time will go quickly and you will get past it, and be proud you did it. Hang in there , you can do this.

The first 36 hours were the worst for me. Then each day got much easier. I went to bed at like 7:00 at night so I didn't have the "head" hunger : night time munchies.

You've got this! It's not easy, but it does get better. Keep focusing on why you are doing it. Before you know it you will be sleeved and living your new life.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
