I'm pre-op and having surgery on Tuesday, 2/25 and these past few days I have really been missing food. I've got 3 more days of the pre-op diet and I've been doing well but when I realize that I can't order Chinese food or pizza, I get very sad:( It's kind of like going through withdrawal I guess? It's like a knee jerk reaction that I want (and usually eat) certain things, then it's like oh, I can't:( It's kind scary thinking about post-op when I don't have my best friend FOOD to fall back on. What will I do?:(

Your not even going to want it once you are sleeved, I'm little over 4 months out and I still don't want food, once your like a year or so out you might want some but by then your going to think to your self " yea I could eat that but dang I look fine and I will not eat that junk "

Temporary condition...Once you are on solids you can eat Chinese food again....just in a moderate amount....i think once you really get going you will have a different opinion of food..it is a challenge I admit..But the good out weighs the food addiction a hundred times fold!!!!!!!!!

Hang in there. I am getting sleeved the day before you (2/24) so I am also in the preop diet blues right now as well. I have to admit , this far in to the preop, I just want to hold out and get to the other side. Then I figure that it gets progressively better as I add food back. This will all just be a blink of an eye time wise in the grand scheme of things.

I'm right there with you. I'm on day 3 of pre-op, having surgery 3/5. I miss food but it's definitely just mental and wanting what I can't have because I miss stupid stuff that I don't even like. My nephew was eating fish sticks the other day and I was like "yum...fish sticks." WTH is that?? I swear the pre-op is messing with my head. I'm excited though because it means surgery is that much closer.

Vdub_tx I'm still cracking up over "Fishsticks? WTH?!" Lol Thank you guys, I don't know what I would do without this site. It's like having someone to talk to 24/7.

I thought the same way pre-op and worried about not being able to change post op.

But now post op 10 weeks out I'm not interested in Chinese food. I can only eat 2 oz per meal so I don't really care about what I'm having as the 2 oz are gone so quickly. It's easy to just have something healthy.

This is one of my biggest fears, I'm sad to break up with food! lol I haven't started my Pre Op diet yet, but I have a feeling it's going to be difficult. It's going to be SO hard, but I will get through this and so will you!! Just think, once you get through the hard phase, you will be able to occasionally have chinese take out just a lot less of it. But probably enough to satisy your brain wanting it, and your taste buds! :) Hang in there and keep your eye on the prize!

I know what you guys mean....I feel like I broke up with a boyfriend or lost a best friend except it's just food. My nutritionist says that I have to keep telling myself that food does not control me, and that I am worth more than the damage food does to me!!

Oh my goodness... This is exactly what I needed today. I'm 4 days into my pre-op diet and I'm having a really hard time. Even though I've lost 8 pounds in 4 days I'm seriously missing food. My fat brain keeps telling me that my surgery isn't for another week and nobody will know if I cheat. I'm holding it together though... Because, I made this choice and I need to follow through with the entire process! But, don't think I didn't give that guy eating a meatball sub at the park a nasty look cause I wanted to rip the sandwich out of his hands.

Boo, I wish that were me! I'm 5 days post op and while I know it may be head hungry, I see FOOD... Then I see my Protein Shake or my Soup and I desperately want it! Lol I can't wait for the next 2 wks to be over when I can start adding in some pureed foods lol

Oh SandeeD I feel you! I'm in the same boat. My date is the same as yours, this coming Tuesday, and this pre-surgery diet was harder than I thought it would be. Last night I went to a baby shower and the finger food was incredible. I held out to the end and then finally gave in and had one small chicken wing and one small cheese cube. I felt really bad about cheating, but I still lost weight this morning. Total of 8 pounds lost since last Tuesday. I guess I am thankful that I only have a 7 day pre-op diet. My brother in law asked me why I was doing this. He is nice and slim, and has discipline when it comes to food. I just mumbled...for my health, and left it at that. I know he was shaking his head when he walked off. I think that is when I gave in and cheated. When will I learn not to let people affect me!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
