    Zucchini recipes?

Slice them lengthwise and rub a little oil on them and maybe some adobo seasoning,,,,,,and then grill them.......before my surgery, I never even slowed down for grilled veggies, now that carmeilzed glazed flavor on any veggie, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. is to die for.........take some cauliflower florets and toss them in some oil and herbs and grill them....yum......

    too many calories?

I am pretty much at goal.....now just trying to slow down the melting.

    too many calories?

I stayed well under 1000 for the 1st few months.....I got to goal within 4 months and have now started to add back some. A lories with no ill effects.
  4. Get rid of it.......and don't even bother investing heavily in the next few sizes down. I made the mistake of buying clothes on the way down to my target weight, not realizing that with the surgery and the drastic weight loss, sizes I thought I'd only hope I could get to, I blew past and have had to re-wardrobe a couple of times......trust that this surely works and wait till you level off"......

    Ugh! Me at the beach

So I am 5 months post op and down 90 lbs.......I also carried my weight well presurgery......trust me.....it's all worth it.....buying normal clothes and not giving your shirts the "stretch" when you put them on is priceless.being able to buy clothes that are the right length proportionate to your size is priceless.... One of the only mental hurdles I have been working to overcome is the "big guy" mentality.......those days are gone.....people will not naturally move aside for you....they won't be intimidated by your size anymore.....it's a guy thing....and certainly an adjustment.......but once you start to appreciate being "normal" and not having to worry about theater and airplane seats, etc.....it's soooo worth it.....

    unkind drs

This was also my first reaction to reading this thread. We can all get upset and think that the doc was crude or insensitive, but maybe that's what some of us needed to prompt us to make a change( myself included) I have yet to see a single case where WLS was performed and the patient didn't lose weight......so what they were saying was true.....we are eating too much!!!(oversimplifying for effect but still true)

    Looking good!!

    Juicing?

I spent a lot of time and money trying to figure out what I would do for protein shakes and the like, post surgery...after a month of preop and then all through post surgery...I still find nothing more pleasurable than chewing on a nice piece of turkey or fish or egg whites...and bite for bite, I don't believe that any protein shake is going to satisfy your protein requirements better than real protein.....I just suggest not too stock up too heavily on protein until after your surgery and you are back to soft solids, etc. it's not too hard to meet the 100g protein recommendation post surgery......that's only 400 calories

    Think thin protein bar

Ok...yes....I know...there are some negligible sugar alcohols.... But in the realm of 5g or less.......
  10. inittothinit

    Think thin protein bar

Begging the obvious.......any reason to use these over quest? I've been using quest since surgery and no sugar alcohols.....just fiber and protein

Too much advice and opinions for newbies?

I would have been lost without this site. I was on early and often presurgery. Just about every pitfall and positive that I have experienced has been shared by others here. It made my journey a bit easier. There is nothing but experience that can explain things like post surgery gas pains or the new feeling of full.......having vets that have shared their firsthand experience is invaluable. Let's be honest....the surgeon,pcp,nurses,coordinator,etc........none of them have been through this 1st hand........we have........ Now there are some subjective things like diet and exercise and results,etc........we should all be taking them at face value and applying them as evaluated to our own experiences........

    Tasty but complete multi vitamin

When I went through my surgery, several on the board recommended trader joe high potency chewable. I take 2 of them and also viactiv chewable calcium(tastes like a tootsie roll) ,my surgeon supports what I take and also said that spreading out the doses during the day helps with absorption.

Carbs: aka, the crack cocaine of foods

I haven't had any meaningful carbs since surgery. I know what a trigger feels like and carbs are it......so just pick a food that you like don't feel addicted to( like lunch meat or nuts) and use use that for a snack in place of carbs.....

    Gym (lifting) frustrations

Mrs.......I am dealing with the same thing......presurgery...years ago.....big time body builder.....heavy weight ...but post surgery, all the strength is gone......remember a few things....carb loading.....we don't do that anymore....ever...it's just not part of our diet.....I'd say that accounts for 25-30 % of strength.....secondly! our age.....we are probably mzny years removed from those heyday weights....and also! it's a mass thing.....even back then! I was still 30 or more lbs heavier than my current weight.......so don't stress about the numbers...just know that any weight you lift is better than no weight.....and sldo that without the carb loading that our diets used to have, we will be comparatively weaker than we were......just keep doing what you do?..you've done well for yourself since ether weight Loss......
  15. I'm not going to BS you.....this is an adjustment. I was "the big guy" the intimidating looking guy.......it has certainly played on my mind over the 3 months and 80lbs down.........but when you're in the store shopping in the normal guy section and changing tshirts because the one you have on is too loose, you will be happy.......I'm ok with being a normal size now......dropping 6 pant sizes feels good.....and having people tell you how fantastic you look feels good. Am I the biggest, baddest looking dude anymore? No.......but there are so many good things that outweigh the bad......there are more things to like than having big shoulders or being the "big" guy........
  16. I considered myself a diet spade addict before the sleeve. I was easily a 10 cans a day addict. I haven't had a sip since surgery and haven't had a sip.....just realize that a lot of soda and drinking in General was due to the massive portions and salty food we ate before surgery. So now, I haven't missed soda a bit.....probably the only thing I miss now is the ability to snack while I'm cooking or to have appetizers during dinner.....there's just no room for it anymore....I have to consider what I eat because I know there's no "extra" room......

    3 weeks out and depressed...

Just give it time....within a few months you will be able to eat a somewhat normal portion of protein.......I am 3 months out and can eat a normal protien portion cooked in any manner. I don't stress about marinades or fats used to cook........just make sure you eat the protein first and then maybe a few bites of veggies and lastly, carbs.......I know it's tough at first but coming from a long time chef......it gets "normal"

    Which is my starting weight?

I use my pre op starting wright. I figure that's the fattest I ever was:)
  19. Your doctor doesn't have you on a 2 week liquid preop like Optifast? Thank you I definitely won't overstock.....I just need to make sure I find something I like to get me through the pre-op diet.
  20. By the time I was through the surgery and into mushy phase, I couldn't stomach any more shakes. I advise not to stock up too much, even with a flavor or type you like.......once I could get solid protein or even mushy protein down, I haven't had maybe but a few shakes since. I will say you should start to experiment with quest protein bar flavors because they have been my go to since surgery.......

    Golf

So I had the sleeve on feb24th. We had a long crappy winter up here. I went to an indoor simulator about 3 or 4 weeks post op. You shouldn't have any physical problems at all swinging or playing. I was down about 40 lbs at that point (so in between December golf and the simulator session) and it was a drastic change in my swing . I'm not going to lie to you......losing weight rapidly has been very challenging to my swing. I always had a powerful compact swing......single digit player. After the weight loss, the swing plane was all over the place. The swing path was tough to adjust to. And not having the extra mass on the weight transfer really zapped the power from my swing. I had range sessions where I was hitting full shanks ....and when I did hit them flush they went nowhere. I found my SS to be down about 8 mph. I have been playing through the funk for about 3 months now and I am just getting back to some good form. I don't know that a high handicapper would see the same results but this is my story. NOW....the good.....I can walk anytime anywhere 18 holes and not even elevate my pulse......I can buy the coolest clothes and look like "that guy" now. I even went to a normal shoe size.....no extra wides.

    Pop Tarts

2 years out and 200 lbs down? 10 lbs from goal? I say don't take just a bite......eat it all.........a bite is just the kind of test we couldn't pass and ended up here......embrace it...own it....enjoy it.... And then get back up on the horse like you've done so well for the past almost 2 years......really.....live a bit......it's a pop tart, not heroin:)

Has anyone lost weight without exercise

I second the strength training idea. We are already pretty programmed for weight loss with the calorie restriction so the cardio isn't as beneficial as some sort of light strength training. I do about 20 minutes for cardio just to help keep my blood pumping and then work a few different body parts each time I work out. Plus I actually like that sore, healing feeling I get the next day after a good workout. Makes me feel like I am working towards the ultimate goal of health!

    Constipated

A full cap of milk of magnesia (4tbsp) but you have to also drink a glass of water when you take it. Stay close to home for a couple of hours:)
