Band to Sleeve.. Need help!

Recommended Posts

Hello! I had the band surgery on Jan 28, 2011. A year ago September my band slipped (Just my luck) in 3 months I gained almost 30 lbs. It has taken my some time to loose the weight but I look much healthier than I did. I was 230lbs at 5'2. I dropped to 140 lbs at an 85 lb loss. I looked very sick because I lost too much weight. Now I am 25 years old and weight about 165-170 and basically need to just tone. My question is, what did you have to do to revise the surgery from the band to the sleeve. I am very nervous that the band can slip again and when I turn 26 I am off my parents health insurance. I graduate in May so hopefully I will have a good job with benefits. If I don't and GOD FORBID I need an adjustment or It slips I do not know what I would do without insurance. I'm thinking maybe getting the sleeve is better? I do not want to take the band out and gain weight again.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Tommy.

I had the lapband for about 5 years.. Never was successful withh the band. Never felt full. Then in dec 2013 ..I had surgery to remove the band and have sleeve surgery at same time., it was the best decision. Now my appetite has dismissed significantly and I eat very healthy.. But in small portions. The sleeve forums has a topic on lapband to sleeve. U can finds lots of info ..and comments about the conversion.n

Thank you! My mother had the band as well. Our doctor said they have to take it out wait a few weeks before doing the sleeve. I've been successful but I find myself getting sick too often and when I am not tight if find myself gaining.

I had a slipped band. I had it replaced and it never worked right again. After that the doctor told me they usually do not give good restriction the second time. I wish he had told me that to start with. I had a second slip and had it removed. I now have the sleeve. Weightloss is very slow with the sleeve for me. I have lost eight pounds in 21 days. I am in a stall so I am not sure where I will end up.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
