Hi I'm new to this process and am curious to know what you had to do before you were finally able to get your surgery date? I just got my referral sent in 2 days ago so I'm not expecting it to be anytime soon but what was your process like if you don't mind me asking? I have Kaiser California Northern.

Hi it started in sept 2013, it went Orientation, then meet with surgeon & nutritionist, then lose weight to a goal of surgeons wish, then go to 1 kaiser support group, then once you lose the weight, you get a psych evaluation , then once your approved by the psych dr, you get to get your surgery date once you meet all those requirements , happy to meet u

Thanks you so much for that. It's sounds like quite a process but excited to get it all done. Like I said my doctor just sent my referral. Do they take forever to call? The bariatric center that is. I know I'm being a little anxious. But I hate carrying all this weight around. It's nice to meet you as well my name is Monique.

By the way good luck on your surgery. I'm sure everything will go great.

Thank you, and to be honest with you this was my second time getting Refered, the first time I wasn't ready, and I had my last child now that I'm done having kids I decided to do it, and this time I called for everything all appts and kept checking in, I would imagine if you just wait, they will take their time , but I'm not sure, I was just super excited and really ready this time, good luck to you! And hope to see ur journey too

If I may know, Why do you say you weren't ready the first time? I'm 21 and in college, it just really sucks having to pause while walking up the stairs to my class or standing outside of class waiting for my breathing to get back to normal. But I will end up calling the bariatric center if they do not call soon. I want to get this going.

Keep me updated on the rest of your journey with Alex.

My reasons were because I gained all my weight with my first pregnancy and also 2 more children, and after that I kept gaining, yo yo dieter also, and I knew I wanted 1 more child (all together I have 4) so I didn't want to have wls then lose weight , I was too scared I would gain it back if I got pregnant after wls, but I know everyone is different, that is just MY reasoning, and for ME, I felt I needed to feel like I wouldn't gain weight after, and another factor this time was that I was diagnosed with sleep Apnea 1 1/2 years ago, and I felt it was time to change :) so I can safely say I've researched this for many years before I'm finally taking the plunge, feel free to ask me anything :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
