Flipped port?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here experienced a flipped port? I'm almost positive mine has either turned on it's side or completely flipped over. I used to be able to feel it completely flat and round, and now it's hard to find and feels like just a slight bulge. I have not gone to see my doctor yet, but I'm concerned if there are any major complications from it, and how in the world did it flip? Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I'm already upset because my weightloss has been so slow, and now this. Maybe I posted this in the wrong forum. I'll try another one.

Hi Gracie. My port flipped back in August. I had no prior knowledge it had flipped until I went in for a fill. I did not notice any difference in the way it felt or anything. The procedure to fix it is very easy. I was in and out of surgery in under 30 minutes. I was self-pay, and didn't pay anything for the revision surgery as my doctor covered it as part of my initial fees. I was up and back to work the next day without any problems.

I also had a flipped port. Mine was 8 weeks out from surgery and found out because Dr. was trying to do my first fill. It was about a 30 minute surgery to reposition the port. The doctor used the same incision made previously, so no really bad scars all over the body. The doctor fee was $0 because I was within the first year of surgery, however I was charged a hospital fee since my insurance did not cover any of the surgery costs.

Thanks Susan and Valarie, your info helps me. My insurance paid for my surgery, but since then, my doctor does not accept my new insurance and I will probably be self pay. Maybe the doctor will repair it or replace it with minimal cost to me, or at least I hope.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
