how should I space out pre op diet?

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow starts my pre op diet. the doc has allowed me 4 shakes and 2 bars for 12 days followed by 2 days clear liquid.< /p>

I am looking for some ideas of how to space out the "meals" and also in what order.

I was thinking of Breakfast lunch and dinner shakes with bars mid morning and mid afternoon. But that only leaves me with a shake after dinner until the next morning. Something tells me that a bar for a late evening snack will be more fulfilling and enjoyable than a shake.

what plan did others follow? did you find it was unnecessary to space them out so evenly? is it ok to backload them a bit so I have more servings to enjoy later in the day? What about halving the bars?

I was allowed 2 shakes a dinner of lean meat and some veggies.

I was fine with my meal being the last thing I ate at night - I just pushed back my meal time to a little later than normal. I usually had it around 8:00 pm. I was fine until the next morning when I had my approved Decaf coffee. I opted to use my milk allowance in my coffee rather than my shakes. This helped me.

I drank lots and lots of green tea - it was approved on my plan. It helped with that hunger you're bound to feel.

You're probably going to feel bad the first few days. I started feeling human again around Day 5. Days 1 thru 4 sucked - I was moody and hungry.

You're going to do great - it will be over before you know it!

I was only allowed 4 shakes a day and Water. I spaced them out so that I could have one before bed...It was tough and I was worried I never make it and sometimes it was tough... Seems to me you have a lot more to consume then I did.. Enjoy however you decide to get them in....

Soon you will be on the other side and enjoying the results of your surgery......Congrats on this step!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
