Port area still sore

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 1/2 weeks post op. I feel like I'm healing nicely for the most part. But I still get very uncomfortable under my chest area. Anyone else experiencing discomfort where the port is? Is this normal?

My port area was sore for quite a while (can't give you a specific time frame). I remember that was the last part of feeling better in the healing process, for me anyway. Even now, 4 1/2 months out, the port gets sore sometimes...maybe its just because im so conscious of it at times.

If you are concerned or feel there is a problem give your doc a call.

Shelley, I'm right there with you. 1 1/2 weeks out and the port site (mid stomach) and the band site (under left boob) are tender and make it difficult to bend over. My husband thinks it is just all the nerve endings healing on the inside. I see the Dr. on Tuesday and will see if this is normal.

I am 16 days post op and the port area is still a little tender. It is mostly sore first thing in the morning and when I bend. I still cannot wear pants or anything that is fitted around my waist. Good news is my incisions are healing nicely and all the bruising is gone.

Everyone's body heals differently but according to my doctor the port area will be tender for a few weeks.

Best of luck to you!

I was banded in September. My port area still gets sore every now and then. My cat likes to jump up and stand on it, mush it, "make paws" on it, and then lay down on it. That hurts LOL. My doc finds that funny :) If you are worried about it, give your doc a call.

Mine was sensitive for about a month. It was better over time but it'd remind me that it was there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
