I have a 10 month old baby

Recommended Posts

I have a 10 month old baby. He'll probably be a year or so by the time I have the surgery. How am I going to be able to be a mom the month after the surgery when I won't be able to pick up more than 10 pounds? He goes to daycare during the day which will be helpful, but everything will be put on my husband and he's not going to be happy about that. A month is a long time when you are dealing with a baby on your own! Not to mention I will feel so much mommy guilt!

Anyone went through the same scenario after the sleeve?

I have a 4 year old and a one year old and I didn't have any issues taking care of them. They just weren't allowed to jump on me like they usually do for a while. But all in all you should be able to care for them post-op. Just don't recommend pushing yourself because you'll need the rest.

My younger son was 18 months when I had mine, and a BIG bpy. hubby did almost everything for the 1st wk (he stayed home from work), but after that I was on my own and just had to be carefull!

I am six weeks post-op, and I'm mom to six kids, ages 13, 11, 4, 2, 2 and now 7 months (was 5 1/2 months old when I was sleeved). I'm home with everyone full-time everyday -- we homeschool and don't use daycare or have any family to help. My surgery was on a Tuesday, so my husband took off that day and through the weekend. By Monday, he was back to work, and I was on my own again. We all survived. I wasn't allowed to life and carry my 26-pound baby for three weeks, but by 2 1/2 weeks, I had to out of necessity on a couple of occasions. I could hold him, change diapers for the younger three, homeschool the older three, make meals, do bedtime, etc. I needed help only with the lifting and carrying and at bathtime, but I was otherwise good to go, and the time I needed help was short in the grand scheme of things. Don't be consumed with Mommy guilt. It's okay to take time to take care care of yourself. As of this morning, I'm 47.4 pounds down, and I feel so great! I have 80 or so to go still, but I already feel like I can keep up with my littles so much better. I'm so pleased with my decision! Best of luck in making yours!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
