Surgery on 21st, journey so far

Recommended Posts

Been on liquid diet since Saturday (3 1/2 days so far). Started at 360 and in this time I'm already down to 340, which gives me hope for the loss! I read a couple of the current threads from others having problems on the pre-op, and I feel for you, between hunger and lack of loss.. Makes me feel guilty about posting this. I feel the hunger, but really only when it would be time for me to eat.

Anyway, had the UGI test, a nutrition class, and pre-surgery stuff. So far the UGI test was far the worst part, I came very close to vomiting the barium back up.. Ugh, still shuttering! If everything comes back aces I'll be done on the 21st.

I of course have cold feet, but I know its in my head. Having already lost some weight makes the little devil telling me I don't need the surgery. Not being able to continue my old lifestyle gives the same reaction. I know that I have to do this though, statistically I know I cannot do it on my own.

My apologies, this is rather disjointed and rambly, but I had to get my thoughts out :)

Cafe,

I found that the pre op diet is not as bad as I thought. The first two days were rough but my body adjusted. Make sure you have plenty of chicken broth sugar free Popsicles and sugar free Jello.

I use premier Protein and syntax nectar for shakes. Good luck.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
