Hi Everyone, I am new here. I have my first consult this upcoming with with a bariatric surgeon for the VSG.

My main concerns beforehand are:

--Post surgery liquid diet phase and getting through those initial weeks (with two small children, 5yrs old and 10 months old)

--Hair loss and what can I do ahead of time to prevent this

--Loose skin

--And of course my overall health, maybe not feeling hungry and how will I ever eat again, will it be abnormal, will I constantly be obsessed with what I can and can't eat

Anyways, just wanted to say hi and maybe someone has some advice for any of these concerns.

Hope to keep reading and learning more, I'm a bit overwhelmed and finding it hard to make time to read up as much as possible while caring for little kids and working.

Thanks!

I am newer.....almost 7 week. The post op phase is easier than you think. Just have a plan in place. I did a lot of Protein drinks and split pea Soup.

The hair, I read it was a similar loss as a women has after child birth. With you already having 2 kids you know......it isn't "that" significant. So that is what I am expecting.

I had a hard time feeling hungry at first. I always a pure Protein Bar in my car now JUST incase. If I forget to eat I get sick and sleepy. Like I said I am 7 weeks out....I feel like I have several options to eat. I honestly can't wait until I can have raw veggies and fruit....that will make me VERY happy. But otherwise...........LIFE IS GOOD! Best decision ever. My treat daily is a healthy choice frozen greek yogurt.

Loose skin is something I am also concerned with as well I don't have an answer for that.

GOOOOOD LUCK and welcome.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
