New years resolution anyone?

Recommended Posts

So leaving the weightloss trend of my previous years and years of resolutions I've decided to change mine up a bit. I'm going with working toward financial freedom. (Being debt free).

My goal for the year is to compete in a Spartan race and complete it. It has always been something I have wanted to do. This is my way of saying my goal for the year is to lose my weight and get healthy..

Haven't done resolutions for a few years, got so depressed failing every time!

So what I did this year was to get a book and on page 1, I wrote down all the things I felt were wrong with my life and numbered them.

On page 2, I wrote down the solutions to each problem - and amazingly, there were answers, I just hadn't wanted to face them. Each month this year, I did an update on each one. I have started to tackle every single thing I wrote in the first week of January - I have completed some (9 things) and (4) are works in progress.

On page 3, I wrote down what were the barriers to me succeeding - and in almost every case, it came back to me!!! I was finding excuses to not do things, so I started to make "yes" my default word not "no". What a difference that's made to life this year. I have been places and done things - sometimes through gritted teeth and with real fear in my heart - but I did them and made myself so proud (from losing 82lbs to making significant career changes to getting naked with a hot guy to going to concerts/cinema on my own). I also saw that I needed to let my friends in more, that I was almost obsessional about not being vulnerable. That's transformed my life, I hadn't realised how many wanted to help me but that I had put up so many barriers they couldn't get over them. Now I know how much I am loved, liked and needed just for being me :-))))

So on page 4, I wrote down all the good things about myself that I wanted to build on. And I have spent this year trying to do that...

Bit of a long response but doing this really has changed so much in my life. Doing it again this new year although I'm not sure 2014 is going to be as dramatic as this year!

Happy new year when it comes x

Choosing myself first, putting my own needs in front of others....so for me that means saying no more often. I'm going to go with, "let me get back to you" for all those requests that end up haunting me later and taking up my time. I want to be less available for others and use that free time and energy for my own work. At the same time I am launching a son and seeing to my parents' end of life -- it is important to me to do those things honorably. But I need to take care of myself, too. Me first.

When I hit Onederland I want a full body massage and a facial. That's just 20-25 pounds away for me so that's a good immediate goal. From there ten more pounds down to 190 another full body massage and facial. Then ten more pounds to 180 for a repeat of the same. That's three. I can do this -- I will tuck the money away and do this for myself.

New fitness clothes are needed now and when I get another chunk off I will need the next size down in jeans and some new tops. Yippee!

I'd like to do some big fitness thing -- like climbing a mountain or participating in some organized exercise event.

I want to be off my blood pressure medication and my sleep machine. Next summer I want my joint pain to be lessened so I can enjoy gardening again.

I want to be beautiful for my son's high school graduation in June.

My New Years Resolutions are (1) Buy an expensive pair of shoes (after I have foot reconstruction surgery in March) (2) Learn to shoot a gun and when I'm comfortable with firing it, purchase one and (3) visit my sister who lives in Chicago. All three resolutions are a reward to myself for the weight loss. Can't wait to be able to walk Chi-Town with my sissy, wearing my new, expensive shoes!

I'm a list maker too. I love the thrill of checking things off my list even if it's just the list of chores for the day.

Holy cow! Am I the only one who read the above and immediately thought 'Holy ****, they're going to learn how to fire a gun, get a gun and then pay a little 'visit' to their sister ......'?!! <which in my speak, is a euphemism for ending someone's life>

Yes?

No?

Okay.. It's just my warped little mind then

Too bad you won't be able to walk around Chicago in your fancy new shoes with your gun hanging on your hip!

Won't need to. My sister has her concealed weapons permit and my brother-in-law is Chicago PD. I'm not sure if I want a concealed weapons permit here in California but my brother, sister and brother-in-law here all have concealed weapons permits. I have another brother-in-law here that us also PD. I just find that as I'm losing weight I my self esteem is rising and I'm feeling more confident in myself. I want to do things that I haven't been able to do in a long time, like walking the city and I want to do things I've never tried before.

Sounds like you're covered. Good for you and your goals. I've got my concealed carry permit in Idaho and it's not so I can be packing everywhere I go. I'm single and do a lot of traveling and camping by myself so overall, having the permit just makes it easier to travel with my gun. I can have it in my glove box or center console, or bag, etc. Without the permit I would have to have it laid out on the dash or front seat in plain sight.

Sorry for the tangent, folks!

My New Years resolution is to get to a healthy weight so my husband and I can get pregnant. And also to get a sexy dress to wear for his homecoming. I'll be a different lady when this deployment is over! :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
