Question About Epidural And Catheter

Recommended Posts

I had decided to have my surgery with Dr. Quionnes in February. Now I realize that he gives epidurals and you have a catheter. I'm not sure what to do know because I have gotten extremely sick (violently vomiting) after I have had an epidural. I also have lower back problems and my pcp said that this could aggravate my problem and make it worse. The catheter thing...well I just hate catheters, Anyway I need advice. I am ready to choose another doctor now and I don't know if I am making a big deal out of nothing or not. Should I just suck it up and deal with it? Do other doctors use epidurals and catheters? Please help!

Hi! My impression is that very few Mexican surgeons use epidurals or catheters. I base this on my own experience with the much-revered Dr. Illan and on reading many ladies' blogs of their Mexican Sleeve experiences.

I know Dr. Illan is taking a short time off for Christmas, but my impression is that he has good availability thru the 20th or so and again in January. Good luck!!

I had surgery with Dr. Illan too, but I researched a lot of different surgeons and I can't think of a single one that I looked into that uses an epidural. Great thing about Dr. Illan, too, is that there is no drain. I'm not a big fan of drains.

I've never heard of an epidural being used for VSG, and I would think that anything that is likely to induce violent vomitting is to be avoided. Never had a catheter either... was up quite quickly, used a commode chair once and then walked to the loo with a little help.

I don't understand why they would use a catheter.... I was up walking only two hours after I got back to my room.... I mean even if u can't be up they could use the cammode or even a bed pan.., its good for u to be up walking as soon as possible! I'm in the hospital now and was unable to go to the bathroom (I had surgery four months ago) and they said a catheter is the last resort! So I bed panned it lol

I too had my surgery in Mexico, not sure why they would use an epidural. You may want to double check this. I think an epidural only keeps you numb from the waist down; your stomach is above your waist. I know they may use epidural(twilight sedation) and a catheter for plastic surgery.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
