Post lapband, pre first fill and taking appetite suppresants

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I am in my soft foods stage but still several weeks off my first fill. I just cannot get full and with the limited options on what I can eat, I am starting to put weight on. I still have some appetite suppresants left over and am wondering if it is ok to take them? It is reductil.

Has anyone else done this? Is it dangerous to do so?

Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.

Thanks

Lily x

I don't think you are alone in this... I have some as well, and if I end up needing them, I will for sure be taking them.

I would take them if you are sensible about the dosage but really if the operation has been successful you will just not need them, I was the biggest overeater/food obsessor, and I have succeded with the lapband!

XX Good luck

Fills make such a difference!

Thanks for the answers guys.

Amourette, i intend to fully succeed with the band, once I have a fill I will stop taking them but until then I have started them again.

I didnt eat half as much as the day before, however I did feel really gassy all day which isnt a good thing - not sure if it is related. will find out today I guess.

I'd take the pills, assuming your band doc is OK with you taking pills at this stage of your recovery. Bandster hell is the worst period of being banded -- you feel like you just had major surgery to help with your weight but you're in a holding pattern until it kicks in.

I agree 100% with everyone who said this time isn't about weight loss. You shouldn't beat yourself up about anything that happens during this period (I gained about 7 lbs between going on solid foods and getting my first fill). That said, if I had another tool (like a pill) to help me at least not gain for the short term until I got a fill, I'd have done it.

No matter what, you're going to do great. Your fill will be here in no time!

It is hard to deal with the hunger pre-fill. This is commonly called being in "bandster hell"....having the band but no fill to make it work, lol!! I think you should check with your doctor before taking the diet pills, but dont see why they would hurt anything. Just pick good, filling, protien containing mushies, and try avoid things that are high in simple carbs. One of my favorite soft foods was fat free cottage cheese. Half a cup has only 80 calories and 12g or Protein. It is very filling and I probably had it for lunch everyday. Refried Beans (with no added lard or fat) topped with fatfree sourcream and salsa are also great. They are high carb, but not simple carbs like mashed potatoes, and refried beans are high in Fiber and protein and are very filling. You can also puree some canned chicken breast in with some cream of chicken Soup and not only does it up the protein content, it makes it much more filling. Get creative and counterattack that hunger!

I have an active perscription for Phentermine and I took it pre-fill and I still do take from time to time (usually around TOM). It will not harm the band but it is a good idea to tell your Dr and get his/her opinion.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
