Coffee Is A Clear Liquid, Right?

Recommended Posts

Is coffee considered a clear liquid? Or am I going to be experiencing caffeine withdrawal as well as post-surgery pain?

I weaned myself off caffeine in the months preceding surgery so I'd be prepared. I'm on all Decaf now, but plan on stopping all coffee for several months postop. (Even decaf is acidic and considered irritating to the stomach) This wasn't necessarily advised by my nut, but I am going with the theory of treating my newly stapled stomach as if I had an ulcer. I want to help my stomach heal as quickly as possible in any way I can.

I did the same with my neck fusion surgery (nutritional/vitamin support) and no NSAIDS ( inflammatory cells are actually beneficial in your body's healing process, so despite the pain, I wanted to HEAL!). Neck turned out great.... I was skiing at 4 months out :)

Hm. And I already struggle with GERD so it makes good sense that I should get off the coffee as well. I will start taking it down over the next week. Not sure if I'll completely get off it before surgery, but at least I won't be totally withdrawing right after surgery.

Good luck! I actually found a Decaf mocha Protein shake (made by Click available on Amazon). That, and maybe adding a "shot" of decaf espresso to a vanilla Protein Shake, might satisfy my coffee cravings without too many repercussions. "Love my coffee!"

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
