Did Anyone Have To Gain Weight To Qualify?

Recommended Posts

Susysleever...I so agree with you. The game is really getting to me. I am 5.9 and 240. when I went to the surgeons office in october to start my 3 months of Aetna insurance requirements and I has lost a few pounds on my first appt so I went in weighing on the low end of border line BMI but still there. Went for an appt the first of November and I gained 3 pounds and get told Aetna may deny me for gaining weight but then I am told by the nutritionist to not lose a bunch of weight or I will be under BMI. Oh My Gosh...REALLY!!!! now I have become a nervous wreck..what if I gain what if I lose??? What if I get denied over this crap?! its so frustrating and a stupid stupid game

Thats why I am going to Mexico. Tired of waiting.

It helped me stay at 40.0 and my insurance just approved. It is unbelievable that you can work so hard to try and lose or gain weight and your body won't let you!

Somehow I find myself laughing out loud at this thread! Actually, I was riding along in my car today and remembering when my niece said (before WLS) "you'll never get approved!" And I said, "Oh, I could gain a few pounds if necessary!" LOL

Well, by the time I made up my mind to pursue I met the 35 BMI and had several co-morbidities. 3 1/2 years later. 110 pounds lighter, wearing size 4/6 ( I'm 5'8"). And completely happy with my sleeve and the decision. NO meds or co morbidities today!

Good luck to all of you! It's life changing!

I was asked not to lose any. My pre diet was just writing down what I ate and not lose.

Yes. I am same height and they are having to throw out my weight for 2010 because it was 12# to low and they are going to weigh me January 2nd to get BMI over 40 for 3 consecutive years. We also have to find a medical record that says I weighed 207 in 2011 to get approval. They say I am going to be scheduled for my band in January and have my Liver class on 1-2-2014. Excited, but nervous something will fall through. We all know it is quite a commitment just getting through all the Dr.s appointments, weigh ins, not to mention the wait. I am praying they get the approval they anticipate. Would hate to have to start all over again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
