Day 4 Post Op. Starving!

Recommended Posts

I have literally been starving since I woke up from surgery. And nothing helps quench the feeling. Sometimes I can minimize it with Water but the feeling never completely goes away. I'm taking anti nausea medicine and a ppi but I really feel this is honest to goodness hunger. The hospital dietician says it's impossible but all I want is a giant cheeseburger or even some raisen bran or oatmeal. Anything to get rid of the warm gurgley hollow feeling in my tummy. This above anything else is making me feel extreme buyers remourse. Like what did I just do to myself? Am I ever going to feel normal again? At this point, I feel like happy satisfied fat would be better than this. I miss food.

If your saying you miss food, then I'm willing to bet its head hunger that is just rearing it's head. It can be sneaky and it'll creep up on you. Work on not missing food so much, make peace with the fact that your relationship is completely different now with food.

Have you been in any talk therapy? It may help you come to terms with this..I see my therapist every 4 weeks..have for 8 years. She made me realize just how my life revolved around food, when I honestly didn't know it did.

Good luck. If you don't try to get over missing the food, you'll have a pretty rough post op recovery. I'm 18 days post op and haven't chewed food since October 5th.

Relax and try to focus on something else.

First off yes it gets better! The first weeks are really hard so be patient :)

Ask about upping the ppi or changing.. The empty gurgle type feelings are often that.

It also sounds like you are going through good old fashioned head hunger, I say that because you have specific foods in mind you want to eat.

Not that we don't get true hunger! Because trust me we do! Be kind to yourself and know that it dose get better :)

I am 8 days post op and know how you feel, most of the time I am fine and don't really even think about food. But every once in a while all I can think about is nachos and French fries lol. I was craving chewing so badly yesterday that I chewed a cracker an spit it in the trash. Then I got the worst stomach ache ugh. I know it will get better though! Just keep a positive outlook!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
