How long before you had a 'drink'?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I'm just wondering how long post-op it was that you first had a glass of wine (or favourite tipple). No lectures please - I can read and I know that some Docs say up to 6 months. I'm simply wondering what people's experiences are :-) Lx

Lol I got wasted on NyQuil the other day. It scared me so I didn't try any wine yet...

I drank wine 6 weeks out of surgery with no issues. I've heard people say that they got drunk much quicker, but I haven't experienced that either.

Thanks J-La. It's good to hear you had no ill effects :-)

First I asked my surgeon before I drank anything, after he said it was fine and for only a small amount is when I tried anything. Also I was 4 months out and I got very tipsy so please be careful and make sure you are around someone you trust.

I also didn't feel anything with the first two glasses of wine, which I thought was bizarre cuz I really don't drink and get buzzed on a half glass....but then the third time I had a glass I couldnt feel my face lol

The only thing I will say, it is too darn long. Haven't tried anything, but crave it.

I had wine at 2 months. I, too, got tipsy fast and then it seemed to be gone fast as well. I have since had wine a few more times and I haven't noticed the tipsy part. :( I have not tried anything heavier, like liquor. I am a little scared of it.

Has anyone tried to drink after 4 weeks? I'm having surgery on the Nov 26th and then our Christmas party is Dec.19th. So I'm curious if I can even have a small drink? My husband will be with me so I'm not worried about getting drunk, just don't want to do any damage to my new tummy.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
