hi all,

well i was approved for the sleeve procedure and it is happening nov 11, 2013. I suddenly realized that i have to take care of all my laundry, go shopping for 1st and 2nd week liquid diet, make doctors appts now for after the surgery, and anything i can suddenly think of that would need preparedness. Basically do everything that i might not be capable of immediately following the surgery. If anybody has any tips or advice it is definitely appreciated as far as being prepared for post op needs 1st and 2nd week.

I will be staying with family the 1st week post op immediately following discharge from hospital.

Thank You

Do not over buy Protein Drinks. Your tastes may change. Heating pad is awesome for gas pain. For me, recovery was fairly easy. I did have pain with esophageal spasms, but there are meds to help with that. Good luck

Get sample packets only...to try out different Protein powders. I lived with my heating pad first few days home. I actually slept with it each night for a good 4 days straight. Took all the swelling down in no time too!

Don't go crazy buying stuff you won't otherwise use. I didn't have a problem with tastes changing.

Good luck!

1. sleeping on your couch might be easier than sleeping in your bed.

Since I came home, I've been on the couch, sleeping on my back.

Eventually, you'll be able to sleep on side, but for me, it's been easiest while still on the couch.

2. My tastes changed on the Protein drinks for post-op.

You might have to change what you get, so go sparingly on this.

3. You'll probably need something to help you easily use the bathroom.

Maybe invest in gel stool softeners.

If you don't use the restroom atleast once during the week, speak with your doctor/surgeon.

Not using the bathroom for two weeks is BAD!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
