Does eating EVER get better?

Recommended Posts

I am about 4 and a half weeks out, and in stage 3 of the eating plan. I had homemade chicken Soup for dinner, and I have to say, that about the 3rd or 4th bite into the meal, this uncomfortable, almost pain starts to happen, and removes the desire for one more bite! I know I have to take small bites, and chew my food well, and I comply with that instruction. The noises of gas bubbles churning in my little stomach can be heard across a crowded room and are embarrasing. Once I push my bowl away and give up, that uncomfortable feeling will last up to an hour before I find relief, like burping a hundred or so times! Is this all a part of the healing process and should I just apply more patience to myself, or is this going to be the case for the rest of my life? That is a dismal thought, to say the least, but I feel a bubble of panic setting in and I want to nip it in the bud, of that is possible! Any reassuring thoughts will be most appreciated!

It gets better :) at 4 weeks your stomach is still healing and swollen.. Things for me got more "normal" in the 2nd to 3rd month..

Now eating is like it was before. I just can't eat as much as I did before.

Thank you, Laura, for your very swift response! You have given me a glimmer of hope! I so appreciate your taking the time to answer my question! I did a lot of research before I got the sleeve, but going thru the experience is completely different than just reading about it. I have been wrong about so many things so far, but I am trying to learn and get thru the healing part of this journey! I guess that I am still very much in the healing stage, and just need to give myself more time. Thanks for the hope you have extended to me! It means a lot!

It will pass. This is all part of the healing process. Around that time in my recovery I was seriously pondering if I had done the right thing getting the surgery because I was so uncomfortable and experiencing horrible reflux. But it slowly gets better until it's no longer a problem at all.

Just hang in there.

Are you taking a PPI such as Nexium? I have to take one otherwise I have the same issue. Too much acid in my tummy. You can get OTC ones or your dr can prescribe, but it helps me:) Good Luck

I have the same problem. 10 days out and I am on purees but I still don't feel well. I was beginning to think I'd made a mistake, guess I needed the reminder that I am still healing and to be patient.

Thank you for all of your comments! I am taking a prescribed anti-acid and was told I needed to take it 2X a day for the next 6 months whether I felt like it or not. But, what I am feeling seems to be more like gas than burning acid, and it feels like it is bubbling, and will finally, after a long period of time come out in burps, giving relief. I'm thinking that perhaps I should add a gasX pill to my day and see if that helps. But the other part is pain!!! Today it happened again, and I resorted to taking a small swig of the left over liquid pain med I was given when I got out of the hospital. It helped a great deal, taking away that pain in about 5 minutes. Now I am wondering if I need to go back on that stuff for a few days and see if the pain will calm down. I guess I need to call the doctor and find out if that is the right decision. I get hungry, but I'm starting to not even want to eat because it is being so painful, or back track and go back to all mushy stuff? This healing stuff is not as easy as I first thought it would be.

Thanks for listening;

Connie

Just keep walking! It will help the gas. I used my pain meds for a week at nighttime so you are not alone.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
