Overtired and can't sleep-so many changes

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on oct 9th/13. So I am just over 2 weeks post op. I am having trouble sleeping. So many changes are happening with my body. I am relearning what hungry and full feels like, drinking more Water than I ever have, drinking Decaf tea...used to always be coffee. Adjusting to portions, thinking before I eat whatever I want. Sooooo many changes!!! I feel I am mostly doing well but I have moments of being overwhelmed, even jittery feeling. So cold too. Almost like when I have been emotionally upset and I am shaking from the inside. Does that make sense? I also have a blood clot on the side of my stomach. I have very damaged veins from a previous blood clot many years ago. Thank God this one is superficial. Still, I have anxiety and fear that it will move, even though my dr. Says it won't. I am petrified. I think that's my main reason I am scared to sleep, fear I won't wake up. The skin where the blood clot is formed is also very red, inflamed and tender. I have been going for IV meds at the hospital as an outpatient. Plus taking oral antibiotics. So,, once this is resolved I hope I can have some rest and not worry so much. I have a husband, two children ages 4&6 that need me. Glad there is this support group, somehow it's therapeutic just to write this out and tell someone and not be judged.

Have you talked with your doctor about possibly taking something either to help calm your nerves (like Ativan) or something to help sleep?

You are going through a lot right now, you may need a little help. When my son died, I had a lot of stress and anxiety--and especially over the thought of his funeral--didn't think I could get through it.....more than I could handle, and someone suggested valium....my physician gave me Ativan (not as strong as valium), and it was a life saver......I didn't think it did anything, I didn't feel any different.....but looking back, I know it did I could sit through the service without freaking out.....

Hope this helps.....and hope you feel like yourself...soon.

I think I will talk to him Monday. I used to have to take zoplicone during very stressful events in my life. Thank you for reminding me to ask for help if I need it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
