So, I've always been the type that hates exercise, sweat, getting hot, etc.

Monday, I ran for the first time in... 6-7 years. I ran 1 mile, with breaks.

Today, I ran another mile. Without stopping. Clocked in at 12:41. It is slow, but I'm super proud :D

What is a realistic running regimen for me? My dream has always been to run a 5k. I just never thought Id last half lap around the track.

I plan to run a mile 3 times a week.

It's one of my biggest NSV: I can't believe I can run! Sure I'm slow, but wow... Running???

Do you think a 5k is something that I could shoot for and how would I go about training for this?

Any and all advice is much appreciated! I'm a fish out of Water when it comes to exercise. :)

Way to go!!!

A lot of VST folks work towards running a 5 k by using the c25k program. It is a progressive strategy that introduces distance slowly until you can run a 5 k at the end of the program. Check out the super long c25k thread in this forum (fitness) for anecdotes, strategies and encouragement.

As an aside, my wife is also interested in doing a 5 k. Perhaps you two could pair up. Her VST handle is phoenix79. She just started in the running process so is about where you are at.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
