Well, I had my GI today, it showed, Acid, and bile in my pouch. It also showed ulceration, in my Stomach. Surgeon said only thing to do for the Acid Reflux is switch to a Bypass….I am so Depressed…….

What do you mean by your pouch? I presume you are sleeved already. I would get a second opinion before I went thru bypass surgery.

Goldy, so sorry to hear this. Although I chose the sleeve, I have met many successful and happy bypass patients over the years. And Eggface is someone who blogs all the time. she has a bypass and she's done very well.

Hoping for a quick and permanent resolution to the issues that have been bothering you.

I am one of two sleeved patients at my support group.....and every single person who has had the bypass at this meeting does not regret it......they are so positive about the bypass that they don't understand why I chose the sleeve.....sending warm thoughts your way and hoping for the best.

My wife had the bypass and is doing quite well. She lost all of her excess fat but her mouth is a bit excessive at times.

(She is sitting in the room, I told her what I said..she laughed but will lower the boom later...ya...I'm a masochist).

The duodenal switch is pretty drastic. Some doctors won't even do it. The side effects are nasty. Malabsorption is worse. It scares me.

Of course you should talk to your doctor about it, but from what I understand the DS won't fix issues like stomach acid or ulcers and the bypass will. I know we all chose the sleeve over the bypass for good reasons, but there are tons of people out there with the bypass that do great and love their surgery. This may well be something that leaves you feeling tons better as well as something that helps you out with weight loss. My niece had bypass and she is doing great and has no issues. There are also lots of bypass patients at my support group (more sleeve than bypass, but still lots of bypass) and they are all doing super and are very enthusiastic about their surgery. So I would encourage you to keep an open mind going forward

Thanks for the kind and positive words, the surgeon is sure I need the Bypass. I am a mess both physically and mentally. I would have NEVER signed up for the Bypass because of many reasons. I appreciate the positive feedback from ppl that know ppl or have had by pass and have positive stories. Thanks, for all the comments. I need and love all the feedback I can get both for and against the Bypass, Informatin in all forms it wanted......

Sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to me plus I was a terrible type 2 diabetes patient. I was on 3 injections and two pills. The surgeon and other colleagues tried to convince me of the bypass but I advocated for my self and got the sleeve, and boy was I happy I did. It turned out that when my surgeon went in they found a hernia which did not show in the endoscopy and a mass on the part of the stomach that she was going to remove which also did not show on the endoscopy. They removed the mass along with tissue that was not suppose to be there. My surgeon said she was stunned she had never seen anything like it before. It turns out I had something called pancreatic heterotopia do basically my stomach was not comprised of stomach tissue but pancreas tissue which sums up why I had. A lot of stomach aches. My sleeve is smaller than most she had to remove 90% of the stomach. In the end I'm happy I stood up for myself.
