First small victory

Recommended Posts

So I am 12 days post op and feeling pretty good. This morning I had my first small victory. I passed my most recent lowest weight. My weight has gone up and down a lot over the years with different diet failures, but in the past few years the lowest I had ever gotten was 233 while doing a physician weight loss with phentermine last year. This morning I weighed in at 231.8! It's just one of those things that lets me know this is really happening. I have been feeling like I will never lose the weight I want to lose because I have failed so many times. I am now feeling like maybe I can really do this. Gonna rock this sleeve!

BTW- My stats are- Highest weight-270, Starting weight- 250.2, Surgery day weight- 242.9, Current weight-231.8

That is fantastic! I too worry that it's all too good to be true and that it won't work for me even if I do everything rights which I know is silly but when we've failed as often as we all have, it's hard to have faith isn't it?

You're doing great. Congrats!

We have very close stats. I'm 5'6, I was 278 when I started this journey in Feb, 249 at surgery day 8 wks ago now 206 72 pounds total and 43 in 8 wks.I also took phentermine off and on for the last 5 years. Congrats passing your first victory! It'll keep dropping off never fear as long as do what your doctor says! Good luck :D

I took phentetmine as well I think it's the gateway drug before surgery for some of us. I say that jokingly but there is a certain level of desperation that came after the phentetmine and years of diet failures that led to this place.

I was the same way in the beginning. After failing for so many years I couldn't believe I was actually going to lose the weight. Each time I would get on the scale it was another surprise. Even now at 14 pounds from goal and 10 months out, I can't believe that I'll actually make it to goal. I know it's hard to wrap our heads around but we can do this!!! You're doing great and I wish you much success on your journey!!

Thanks for the encouraging words! I am still trying to wrap my head around everything I think. Before surgery I felt like it was taking forever to get her, now it all seems like a blur. I guess just time will help me realize this is all real. You would think the pureed diet and eating less that 600 calories a day would do it. I don't really ever feel all that hungry, so it makes the diet more tolerable. I would have been miserable to try to eat like this before. Maybe I have always just assumed I had to suffer to lose weight, that I would have to feel like I am starving all the time. So it's nice to not feel like I am starving even though I am eating so little. Not that I haven't had cravings for real food. I have, but I also know that there is no way I could eat it and it would just make me feel bed. It hurts to take too big a bite of yogurt so I know a bite of a cheeseburger would be horrible! haha Still getting used to that mindset.

Good luck to you all in your journey as well! :)

LOVED reading this! I haven't been below the 230s in ages, and reading of your WL in that range is specifically encouraging to me. Can't wait to get back to -- then back out of -- the 230s. :) Thanks for posting!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
