Oct. 31 Surgey date And im nervous!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments so much I decided to join in. So I guess you can say I started my journey 8 years ago, when I tried to get the gastric bypass surgery but was declined by my insurance company. Last year in December I was convinced by a coworker to look into getting the sleeve done. She really got me thinking about it again so I started with Dr. Eckstein in miramar Florida back in April. I went to all the nutritional visits but never really doing what was recommended of me and just going through the motions without really giving it much thought because I was expecting the same outcome as last time. Although I prayed to god a million times to please get me approved I really didn't believe it would happen. Much to my surprise I've been approved and confirmed for October 31.....halloween!!!! I'm scared anxious excited, and everything else you can think of. But more than anything scared. Scars I won't change my habits, scared I'll gain the weight again just scared of everything to come bit also excited. I have no idea what to do for my 7 day liquid diet and the surgery itself is scary too since I've never been in an operating room!! Is all this normal? Am I overreacting? Anybody else having surgery that date??

you are for sure not overreacting. You are going through what most if not all of us went through. I know I completely lost my damn mind when I got my date and probably weekly thereafter. We all feel the same things you do about being worried about going back to old habits. Its normal to feel this way my dear. Just remember that you have been wanting this for a very long time and you are ready to do this. I am only 3 and a half weeks post op and it has been a rollercoaster ride for sure. Lots of emotions and lots of hardships with my addiction to food. I am down 16 lbs and I know they are gone forever and thats what motivates me. It will motivate you too. be calm and understand this is the best thing you can do for YOU and enjoy the journey.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
