I'm vsg pre op. I was given a 6 month waiting period on insurance. I was all excited on my first visit back in June (planned on the lap band) and now, I'm scheduled to see the surgeon next month and I'm scared of so many different things. For starters, there is NO long term history on vsg surgery i.e., if you're going to need stomach surgery, or need anti inflammatory medication. I know nothing in life is guaranteed, but it seems the longer I've waited for surgery, the more questions I have and the more scared I am. Also, a lot of people are suffering with acid reflux and some vsg patients have the option of doing gastric - I don't have that option due to having a colon resection. Is anybody else worried? Its funny because I want to be smaller but at what expense? Will I have buyers remorse? I can't get a refund lol.

The nervous laugh....The what ifs and might and could happen is not really there now...you know everything is a risk....Having your teeth cleaned can cause you to bleed to death..Sounds strange but I heard of a guy.....

Anyway...good that you have questions and it is also good that you are nervous..

For me it got to the point where I was no longer active..I was the living dead...What was the point of that I thought and I went head long into surgery with a smile on my face the size of a football field...I had the risks and I paid a huge price for this surgery...

But it has been worth all the struggles for me...I am living now! I really am!!!

If you are at that point that there is no other option for you...Then you have a choice to make for your health and your future.....It's all up to you..K

Oh as a side note..almost everyone has buyers remorse at some point in this journey...Mine came when I went septic...

Now no more buyers remorse for me no matter what happens now..I am in a win, win situation with my life....

I share many of you feelings. Had my first surgeon appointment in June and just had my case submitted to the insurance company. Now, after this long haul and many appointment, I'm afraid of being approved by the insurance company because I'm freaked out about having this surgery.

I know its the right thing to do, as I have many of the obvious co-morbidities and diets have short-lived effects for me. I know that my health issues, although controlled now, will eventually cause big problems for me and likely shorten my life.

Still, I'm afraid about the complications possible with VSG ...

I am also very nervous and scared. I agree, the more I read the more nervous that I get.

I am miserable at the weight I am at, have serious health issues, and am embarrassed to be around others, yet scared to take this step.

I wish we could all have a crystal ball for this decision....

Well versed. I work and come home and on occasion I do go out but I'm just tired of being fat, I want to start dating again and I want to fit in a chair and cross my legs. Just like most of us on VST. Thank you.

Yes the more I read the scary it is. But then you also read the positive stories and just wish you were already there. I can't wait to see my surgeon in Nov. There are several people on here who have postponed their surgeries who are now sleeved and happier than ever, and I don't want to regret not having the surgery now. I guess mostly everyone goes through it.

I like to think that many of us who have had no complications, no pain, no nausea, no vomiting, don't post as often because we're too busy out there living our new lives!

While I really feel for VSG'ers who had some rather dramatic complications, statistically the rate of complications is very, very small. I always tell people that I sailed through my procedure and recovery. If I didn't have 5 funny little scars on my tummy and the inability to eat very much, I might think the whole thing never happened.

But it did happen. I am 5 months post op, co morbidities gone, 58 lbs gone, and I have my life back!

My mom had stomach cancer 23 years ago. 3/4 of her stomach was surgically removed. She went from 195lbs to 115 pounds. And she has been cancer free and healthy ever since! So technically he had a similar procedure, and is soning just fine!

Oh my goodness. She sure did have the same surgery. God has blessed her and may she continue being cancer free. I'm in colon cancer remission 2 years so 3/4 of my colon was removed. I joke that once I get my sleeve then my colon would match my sleeve. Thank you so much for sharing this story. Again, many blessings to you and your mom. I guess this is the confirmation I needed.

I am almost three months out from being sleeved. I have to admit, I had last minute reservations....but I do not regret anything. I had a relatively easy time, with no complications and was back to work the day after being released from the hospital.

I have lost about 80 pounds from my high weight in June and about 65 since surgery. All was worth it! I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I thank all of you who have responded and congratulations on your success. This past has definitely put my mind at ease. I already know there are dangers in any surgery we do but I will stay positive and forge forward.

A few months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer. One partial mastectomy, 12 week recovery from MRSA infection, second mastectomy, bilateral reconstruction, radiation and chemotherapy, two years later the fear of WLS was gone! I was sleeved Oct 3, 2013, am down 20lbs and loving life! Sure I miss my BFF foods, mourn the loss of my prior method of soothing of raw emotions with my fav treats. I'm learning new coping skills and feeling so empowered by my sleeve. Life can be short, don't waste a moment on fear. Embrace your chance to break free of habits that don't serve your greater good.
