    Coffee

I was given coffee with my breakfast the day I was discharged. I drink it black. I have had no issues.

    Spicy foods question

I LOVE my spice! I am about 13 months out. I didn't do any peppers until after I resumed a full diet and have had no issues (I don't even get heartburn anymore...which is probably due to the restriction). I still follow the basic instructions...focus on dense proteins...then others...eating slowly and stopping when feeling satisfied. Peppers are definitely more of a condiment now...though I still order a snack size of Blazing Wings from Buffalo a Wild Wings!
  3. II am 10 months out and I did not lose any hair. I wish I knew why. I was/am faithful on getting my protein in as well as supplements.

    Wisconsin VSGrs?

So I just got a letter from my surgeon (form letter) that he is retiring effective immediately. Anyone know details about Dr. Kemmerling in Green Bay. I am about 8 months out from surgery and doing well. Now, trying to decide if I should follow up with anyone else, or just move forward.

    Coffee

I am almost 8 months out. I drink coffee ALL the time. My first two cups are caffeinated then I switch to decaf for the rest of the day. I drink it black with nothing added.

    Scared of Long Term Affects

I am almost three months out from being sleeved. I have to admit, I had last minute reservations....but I do not regret anything. I had a relatively easy time, with no complications and was back to work the day after being released from the hospital. I have lost about 80 pounds from my high weight in June and about 65 since surgery. All was worth it! I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Just got sleeved 2 days ago..

Keep an eye on your temp, and call your doc with any concerns. My temp was slightly elevated (under 100 but around 99.5) for the first few days. Make sure you are walking around...it helps. Good luck!
  8. I travel a lot for work. I haven't had any awkwardness with clients, but sometimes when I am eating by myself at a restaurant, I have had awkward conversations with the server. Mainly it is due to the staff being worried that something was wrong with them meal. To counter that, when the meal comes, I sometimes ask for a box right away.
  9. Surgery Friday and back to work on Monday. I would suggest walking as much as possible in the hospital post surgery. I believe that helped the most in the early days of recovery.

    Post -Op time off work?

I had surgery on Friday and went back to work on Monday. I was very motivated during my two night hospital stay, walking as much as possible. When I am not traveling, I work from home. I was fatigued the first few days, and catching a 20 minute nap during my lunch hour for the first three days or so helped a lot. I know everyone is different and it is important to listen to your body (not to mention your surgeon).

    Bacon

Bacon is also higher in fat. Lean meats are better.
  12. Hey Everyone, I see many folks are using Fitness Pal to track their food intake. I am about 6 1/2 weeks out and have not, as I am trying focus on listening to my new stomach on when to eat, and when not to eat. Should I be using a tool like Fitness Pal. Is there anyone else out there that does not, and are you happy with your progress? My biggest challenge so far, is to slow down my eating at meals, but otherwise I have acheived pleasant results thus far. I have focused on consuming Protein rich foods (sashimi...yum), with a bite (literally) of the more starchy foods. I am still new to the "sleeve life", and I see this as a good opportunity to develop better eating patterns. Thoughts?
  13. Thanks everyone for your replies and input. I might be blessed, as, I don't have a problem with any foods, and I have not had any heartburn, and I seemed to accurately identify the feelings of hunger, or thirst (very subtle). Some folks have stated that tracking is especially good during stalls...good point. This can something I can have in my back pocket, and when I reach a stall (I haven't yet), I can pull it out. My desire, is to get away from counting, and back to choosing the right foods, eating in the right order (Protein first), and stopping when I am satisfied. For years, I would clean my plate (and have more). It may not work, and I may need to measure and track...and that's OK too!
  14. There are many journeys that had us arrive at the pre-op weight that we were. For me, I was a stick in grade school, high school and college. I was soooo active, I remember eating a Big Mac and two hambeurgers (in one sitting) on a regular basis. Back then, I could not gain weight at all. However, as I am sure this resonates with some...I started slowing down, drinking alcohol...but in some respects I never changed my eating habits (well, except for loathing fast food). Pre-op, did I eat the wrong things?? I am sure I did, however, my biggest weakness was portion control. I was never a big sweets guy...only would partake on occasion. Now that I am sleeved, I am forced to change some of my habits. I was sleeved almost 6 weeks ago...and I can relate to what Laura-Ven stated, about mind set. I have evolved in just the past two weeks. It is commonly held, that it takes approx six weeks to make a habit change permanent. There are things that I have chosen not to re-introduce, as I see them as a threat to my overall goal...slider foods are one of them. Do I believe that everyone needs to follow that?? Absolutely not! I do believe that we should all become as knowlegable as we can, then try to objectively weigh the risks and choose what you want to do. Cindy, I am happy it is working for you! And I wish you success in the future, and I think everyone on this forum is or should be rooting for all to succeed!
  15. I hear ya! I have several conversations around this topic with my spouse. I think part of my feeling is because: While I have a letter from my insurance that they deem this medically necessary, it still comes down to a choice on whether I get sleeved or not (I was sleeved 7/28). So in a way, my brain jumps to "elective surgery". Prior to sugery, sometimes I felt like I was "cheating"...I have convinced myself that I am not! I kept this information fairly close until last weekend at a family wedding. Most of those I told were very supportive. A couple of idiots made condescending comments like "just eat less", or, "you need to be real careful or you will put the weight back on". What keeps me going is I view having had this procedure as a tool. A tool, that when used correctly will change my life! I also found these stats: 108 million people diet are on diets (the average dieter, makes four to five per year). The weight loss industry (including surgery) is a $20 Billion industry. It doesn't say, but I would suspect that the majority of that is dieters. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/100-million-dieters-20-billion-weight-loss-industry/story?id=16297197 So it makes me ask...why not?? This procedure was an opportunity for me to get healthy, and with effort, stay that way. Not everyone has this as an option. I do understand, and I stand with you!
  16. I think everyone is different. I am 6 days post op, and have worked a fairly full week. I think what helped me is to walk as early as you can and often as you can before discharge from the hospital. I feel great! I realize that this may be more of an anomaly.
