Acid Reflux Question

Recommended Posts

If this is being posted in the wrong forum, I apologize.

I get Acid Reflux at night when I eat certain foods. My bariatric program coordinator said, in passing mind you, that reflux and heartburn are usually resolved with WLS.

I've been reading LBT for a few days now and wondered how many that had acid reflux before lapband didn't have it any more post-op.

reflux seems to be the only problem i really don't have with the band - didn't really have it before banding and only once since right before my unfill - i think the stuck food/obstruction started causing it and the doc said come in immediately as reflux is pretty hard on the band. hope more people respond - it seems to be a big problem for many

I was medication, you name it, I tried it. Since being banded 7 weeks ago, I have had zero reflux! Of course, they did repair my hiatal hernia, so that was a major contributer to my reflux. But so far, so good (knock on wood)

Did not have reflux before the band, but have some now. Not terribly bad. Stays under control with an OTC acid reducer every day or other day.

That's what I consider the price to pay to go from a size 18 to an 8 in a year.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
