UHC Choice Plus or Aetna Choice POS II??

Recommended Posts

Hi all -- I just started with a new company and I have two options for insurance... UHC Choice Plus or Aetna Choice POS II. My summary of benefits for both say: Other Covered Services: Bariatric surgery. I'm trying to decide between the two and I'm hoping you all can help. I would like to have the Lap Band Surgery. My BMI is over 40. If anyone can share which one they had good luck with, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Sarah -- Thanks for the reply. Can you share with me anything about the approval process and what it was like? I was leaning towards UHC, but I am so confused and I want to make the right choice.

I no longer have Aetna my husbands union contract went with with BCBS and I hate it but..Aetna was great I had to weight in 6 consecutive months before surgery I hear now mow insurance company's have gone down to 3 moths..in that 6 moths I had to either lose 10lbs or stop smoking I gained 20 but did quit smoking..the usual pre-op test pulmonary..stress test and a shrink...2 years of documented weight from my GP basically just had to have my weight on my chart at some point for 2 years...they approved me for surgery 7 days after it was submitted..my BMI was exactly 40 of it had been under then I had to prove 1 co-morbidity which I did have high bp..the one thing I really liked abt Aetna was that u can down load an app or go online and see everything how much you've paid toward ur deductible mine was $150 and how much you paid towards total pay out for the year...I ended up paying $50 for my surgery because all my requirements were such a low pay out...my ex husband has the UHC plan and so my kids are covered under his as primary and this co-payments were double and would barely cover anything..his was Rail road insurance

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
