JUST A BIG DUMMY!

Recommended Posts

WELL, IM CONVINCED THAT EITHER I AM RETARDED OR MAYBE JUST DUMB..

Its been 8 weeks since my surgery and I still make these dumb mistakes:

1. I still drink and eat at the same time, causing stomach pain and vomiting most times.. its like i just forget that I cant drink for 30 minutes

2. I still try to "chug" Water from the kitchen faucet when I come in from outside, especially if it is hot.. I used to love to stand at the sink with the Water running, drinking water from a glass and letting it get all over my shirt like a kid.. well, cant "chug" water anymore.. doesnt matter if i havent eaten at all that day.. it gets "stuck" in my chest thingy and it hurts like heck

3. In the past 8 weeks, I have had a Twix candy bar twice knowing full well that I shouldnt

4. I make it home late from work (round 9pm) and I go in the kitchen and eat something.. even though its not much, I shouldnt be eating anything at 9pm..

5. Im still of the impression, or maybe it is just wishful thinking, that exercise isnt necessary because so many other people (like Paul Wall) have had sleeve surgery, lost weight and never exercised..wishful thinking

6. I dont follow any particular post surgical diet other than no sugar/limited surgar, no sodas and no bread.. i live by these rules, but hell these are the only rules I enforce

7. I know I need a nutritionalist, but I havent taken the time to find one

Im sure there are more things I can name, but I dont want to upset anyone..Anyone else here know they are doing the wrong thing?

I have never seen a nutritionist. I came home with very limited food guidelines...limited as in they are not explained very well. I have been researching and then experimenting my way through my diet. I had bread last night at a social setting, because I didn't feel like I had a choice, even though I am only 5 weeks out. Regretted it big time..it hurt. I have never thrown up, and as long as I have not eaten anytime lately, can drink almost like I used to (water). Ok, so you had a Twix bar twice...I don't know about you, but the old me would have had a Twix everyday and never thought twice about it. I know some will disagree with me, but you have to live life...and sometimes that is going to mean eating a sweet once in a blue moon, or going out to eat at a fancy restaurant. The good thing is that it's not every day anymore, and you can only eat a small amount no matter what. Hang in there!

I agree with a lot of what chow said. My main reason for having plication was to live a more "normal" life. When I was banded I always had to know where the restroom was at all times in case I needed to throw up. I have not experienced that once with plication. I eat out at least 3 times a week. I eat pretty much whatever I want just in smaller quantities. Please remember I have had weight loss surgery for 10 years so the adjustment was easier for me. I would say it took me about 1 full year to adjust to the band, so give yourself some time. However I do think exercise is crucial. I exercise at least 4 * per week and feel so much better. I've lost 44 pounds in under 4 months and feel great!

Diva have you sent many goals for yourself? This seems to help me focus. It also helps me with my exercise habits. I will be jogging a 10 k in july and I am planning to run a half marathon in october. Having these gold keeps me on track.

Don't worry about past mistakes. Start over and do what's best for your new tummy :))

I did a naughty the other night...one of my kids had a baggie of miniature oreos sitting on the table, and although I'm pretty good these days about not craving things I just had to grab a few. I think if we don't treat ourselves once in while we can feel deprived. That was why I could never stick to a diet, I'd get to feeling deprived and the next thing I knew I was ordering a large pizza and a 2 liter of Coke, haha.

I did find these little ice creams (Philly Swirl Sweet Delites) that are yummy and only 14 calories. When I eat one I feel like I'm having a naughty treat, and what's great is that I can even eat two (28 calories!) and be satisfied and guilt free. But don't feel like a dummy for treating yourself! Two Twixes in two months, that is doing excellent...when I want a little treat for myself and get the guilts, I just remember there was a time that I would have eaten WAY more and had a huge Coke to go with it ;-) Some other little things I do to keep me from cravings is I buy lots of sugarfree gum in all kinds of flavors like strawberry Shortcake, etc. and also I got those great little packets you put in your bottled Water in yummy flavors (so far my favorite is Hawaiian Punch berry Lemon).

I do chug Water, I'm guilty to say. I always liked to drink when I ate and it's been really hard to break that habit, I try not to but sometimes I can't help myself and drink a little while eating.

I think we are our own worst critic, and we are only human!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
