Hello from Peachtree City, GA

Recommended Posts

Hello all I just went to the seminar yesterday with my hubby, and beforehand was convinced I wanted the Lapband, but now I am leaning more toward the bypass. I have Tricare Prime and will be calling my PCP tomorrow to make an appointment so I can get the referral for the bypass. I am hoping it will go smoothly and I can get surgery by the end of the year or beginning of the new year. Looking forward to making new friends and get all the information possible about the bypass.

Initially I wanted the lap band and then worked my way to the sleeve as I learned more about the procedures. Finally I decided that if I'm going to have WLS, I'm going for the gold--the gold standard of bypass, that is. I am very happy now that I chose RNY, especially when I read all the posts from people having a do-over from band or sleeve to bypass. Might as well do this once and get it right the first time! My surgery and recovery to date have been very smooth sailing! Good luck!

Please don't have the band. My surgeon doesn't even do them anymore as they don't work. I'm going for a band to bypass revision on 10/10. I did look at the sleeve but as someone else said, I want the gold package this time. Good luck :-)

But, of course, it's totally your choice and I hope whatever you have goes well. :-)

I've pretty much decided on the bypass. I've read too many posts of people having problems with the band and a lot of band to bypass revisions. I am so excited to begin the process.

I have the choice to get either or but I have decided to go with the Bypass because it is the gold standard and I want to do it right on the first attempt. My insurance covers 100 percent so I am very

pleased about this, now I just have to make it through these last 3 months before I have my surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
