Surgery 8/19 - Can I really Succeed?

Recommended Posts

I am having a band to bypass revision on Monday and I am so worried that I will fail yet again! I have been eating horribly (don't have to do a pre-op diet) - my liver is probably getting fattier by the minute! What if I can't do this - I mean lose weight? What if this doesn't work for me? What if I can't change my lifestyle? I want to be healthy and fit, but food is/has been so important in my life. I am just plain scared.....Am I gonna go postal when I can't eat an oreo? Will I be happy eating 5 bites of Thanksgiving dinner? I am going with it, and hoping that in time, with every pound I lose, this new lifestyle will develop and I will gain a healthy relationship with food......Is that possible?

You are hysterical! I am with you on that. I have had 2 failed surgeries in which I am getting complications and the thought of gastric bypass scares me to death. I have always been an entertainer, cooking up a storm for people. Now I feel that my life will be compromised and I cannot do the things that give me the most pleasure.

I can't live with this pain either from the complications. Everyday is a struggle and I feel like I am being forced to do this. :(

Best wishes to you though and please keep us posted on how you are feeling. I think that our relationship with food can be handled a bit better over time, maybe we actually might be afraid of gaining weight. Who knows?

It hasn't happened to me yet! LOL.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
