August 22nd!

We are one week away from our date!

We should all be on some sort of pre-op liquid plan, so let's hear how it's going from y'all.

I am on sugar-free/ low-fat liquids. I am still experimenting with different Protein powders, but I have pretty much settled on a brand. After surgery I plan on going organic and GMO-free. I figured that there is no excuse not to since I will eat so little.

Are y'all exercising? I have been off of exercise since about two weeks before my last surgery, which was three weeks ago. I really look forward to exercising again once I am able. I have a friend who used to be a trainer for the Baltimore Ravens; he was telling me that cardio is important, but strength training is more important. We will need to build/ maintain our muscles in order to keep our basal metabolism high.

Are you nervous? I am. Not because I think I will regret my decision, but because I can't wait for next year! I have been obese since I was 7. It's high time I looked as good as I feel. Dealing with the reason I am obese was hard. As a child it was a protection issue. I tried to make myself ugly. As a teen and young adult I struggled with depression, and I ate out of sheer desperation to feel something besides pain. Now that I can look back and see the pattern, it makes me know that I don't need food to be my best friend anymore. I know that I can go forward and use food as fuel and not comfort. I pray we all keep working on our food issues, because they never truly go away if we don't do the work. We don't want to be back here in the pre-op area in a few years.

Hey srofe!

Sorry you aren't feeling well today :( I haven't been using any powders I just use premier protein shakes, their the best tasting to me! Sorry about your stitches too! I'm sure it will heal soon! I'm feeling good pain wise, I'm just really tired and I'm having issues with purée because the texture just turns me off. Hope you feel better!

A few things going on with me. I need to find a protien powder. Do any of you have a suggestion. I have felt bloated and sick stomach for two days and the shakes make it worse. Also' date=' one of my stitches broke and it keeps bleeding. Not major. I called dr and they said if the area isn't hot or red not to worry. Keep bandage on it. I'm a little down today and would like to hear from you guys! Katie, Mz Katie, Gem and Preemiemommy. How are you all doing? What's going on with you guys?[/quote']

I'm sorry you are having a rough time. I've tried unflavored protein powder but the only thing I can stomach it in is sugar free pudding and it takes me almost two days to get one serving in because its real sweet to me. I agree with Katie about the Premier shakes (SAMs carries them or you can find out which local stores carry them on their website). They seem to be the only shakes I can drink and it doesn't disgust me. And they have 30 grams of protein per shake. :). I have felt down since surgery. Today is the first day I have gotten dressed in anything other than stretchy pants and a t shirt. I still have to wear loose fitting clothing around my incisions but at least I chose something nicer. I still have lots of pain from being cut open but that's to be expected. I have to remind myself daily that I'm not even 2 weeks out yet and to allow myself time to heal. I'm usually very active and being in the house and not doing regular things has been driving me crazy. I've also been a bit hormonal as I've read we will be after the surgery. I know how you feel so I'm here if you need to vent.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. I use Raw Meal and Raw Protein by Garden of Life. They aren't overly sweet so they are easier to stomach.

About the broken stitch, keep it clean and keep a gauze on it. Check to see if it bleeds more with certain motions and rest until it closes. It may only be bleeding a tiny amount but this soon after major surgery your body is trying to heal and every drop counts. If you have one, you can try using a septic pen on it.

I'm so sorry you're having problems. I'm not sure about protein powder, but I will say some days I feel very bloated. Called my Doc office and they said to space out my protein drinks and Greek yogurt more and that works. Physically, I feel ok. Very tired though. I'm more having problems mentally. Like trying to wrap my mind around that what I did is a "permanent" thing, I get overwhelmed. Just think though, we have each other and we will prob all go through similar emotions. Hope tomorrow is a better day!

I took your advise and ordered some of the premier shakes on line. I've been sipping water for a few hours and I do feel a little better. I was sad earlier because my Grandson who is 13 has decided he wants to live with his Dad. I know this breaks my Daughters heart and hence breaks my heart. His Father is a good man and lives an hour away. It's the thought of not seeing him as often as I usually do. I have been close to him all his life. I know that this too shall pass. I'm just sad, that's all. I never stay sad long. Sharing the situation helps relieve my sadness. Thanks for allowing me to share.

I'm sorry. I'm a single mom and can totally sympathize with your situation. I'm like you too. When I get sad, I allow it for a few days then I try to turn it around.

I'm so sorry about your grandson. :( My mom is the same way and it would hurt her to not be able to see her grand kids every day.

There are lots of reasons you may be stalling. Are you getting enough calories? Are you saying hydrated? Are you resting plenty?

Good job everyone! I have 2 week check up tomorrow with dr and dietitian. When are you all going back to work?

I go back September 16th, surgery was July 22nd it will be 7 weeks post op when I go back.

Yes. I'm following my nutrition sheet my surgeon gives me. My surgeon doesn't want me to rest too much, but walk walk walk. Still stalled today. If i was not doing what i was supposed too i wouldn't complain! Lol but when I follow his instruction to the T it's frustrating.
