I don't have PCOS but periods after WLS are evil. Heavy, long and just altogether aggravating. From what I have been reading and what my surgeon mentioned at the seminar, PCOS and infertility improve considerably after WLS.

I had pcos, but got a hysterectomy in 09. Can't comment on the periods aspect of it, but hormonally you are all out of whack after RNY. It is due to the fat cells that are being released. In them are hormones and when they leave they give us a parting gift. Things will even out in a few months. I was an emotional basket case for several months.

My pcos and infertility improved right after surgery. After almost 14 years of being infertile I got pregnant 2 weeks post op. hopefully after I have the baby, my periods will be normal again.

Jerz- I am also pregnant and am curious how you handled the gestational diabetes test. I have read that it is not good for post rny people to drink the sugary stuff they require. Just wondering how that is handled. Thanks!

I have PCOS and actually just started my first period since getting out of the hospital. With the exception of the one I had in the hospital during surgery and for my entire 16 day stay! This one has been horrible! Cramping, clotting, you name it. From reading on other posts some people do get regular with the weight loss, while others still have issues. I've had pcos since around 15 and even at my low weights till had issues. I cross my fingers it gets cured along with my infertility! I'm gonna give my body a year to get itself back to normal. Best of luck to you. :)

I have pcos and I started my period 5 days after surgery and they were consistant every month afterwards. The first couple weren't to bad but months 3-5 post op and I wanted someone to kill me when my period started. The cramps were horrible I got pain meds from the doctor for them. The clotting and the bleeding was horrible I'm amazed how we can live through that. It does get better. After that fifth month I just got regular cramps and a normal period. I was also infertile before surgery and am now 6 weeks pregnant. Its a miracle and couldn't be happier.

Well I've had pcos or 20 yrs now and my period stopped about 7 yrs ago. I am now 4 mos post op and wondering of I will ever start a period again. I want it. I don't want to be fertile or the rest of my life. My biological clock is ticking.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
