Ok, I've got to be honest here, I won't know if I don't ask. I use to smoke marajuana before surgery, I quit weeks before surgery and have not had it ever since. I just started smoking it about two years ago because of my gout and it gave me great relief, more than my meds. My question is, I will be 4 weeks out comes this Monday and I want to inhale so bad, but I'm scared it may do something to my recovery, but on the other hand because I've used it for healing in the past I want it. What are your honest opinion? If you are a smoker have you started back smoking again?

Honestly I wouldn't risk it. I used to smoke a while ago and quit smoking cigarettes two years ago. The chance of getting an ulcer isn't worth it to me. You don't know what's in it ( unless you grow it yourself) and I think I would just feel disappointed in myself that I did this amazing thing to get myself healthy just to screw it up doing something not so healthy. I say this with nothing but respect for you, but you've done so much to improve your health, please try to quit for good. Otherwise you may be trading one health problem for another.

My dr. Told me I could smoke pot about 4 weeks after surgery. Said I would not be at anymore risk. Of negative effects than someone who's never had the surgery, pot is only toxic to your lungs when smoked. The morphine, Percocet, and even acetometiphen you've taking are more toxic to your organs than pot. I've resumed pot. I am not a doctor or recommend any one else smoke the herb .

Did you have any complications after surgery and when was your surgery?

I'm smoking e-cig and I haven't stoped but no nicotine. I can also go hours with out so it's a mind thing.

I would eat it...better for pain...no nasty lung effects. Of course it might be hard to eat enough to be effective. Have you tried an aerator?

I heard eating it is more potent, what's an aerator?

An aerator makes it a vapor and less harmful.

Google marijuana vaporizer if you're in a medical marijuana state

Use a vaporizer or make edibles. sugar free type Cookies. I used to make edibles and it's more intense than smoking and less harmful to the body.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
