Recommended Posts

Hi -

I am new to this forum. I am going to be banded next week on Monday.

While I am excited and ready, but still can't get my head around this being the beginning of the next phase of my life. food has always been such a big part.

I guess its just one day at a time.:rolleyes

Good luck for your surgery, and the doors that it may open for you.

In the short time I've been reading here I have gained tremendous insight and strength from reading how others have got through it.

Initially I was a bit scared about the whole "your band is a tool, it's up to you to use it" business - It's really not an analogy that sits well with me. But after reading a lot here about that, I'm growing more comfortable with it.

food is such a big part of life for us - it's more than eating too much isn't it? Giving it up, and approaching it with an "eat to live" not "live to eat" mindset is a little bit scary. It's like saying goodbye to an old friend.

I just made up my mind (over the course of 5 years!) that I don't want friends like that anymore.

take care.

Well, I am now 4 days post surgery. Apart from severe shoulder pain, it has been pretty straight forward.

Usually I am superwoman, and bounce back from surgery quickly. I had a 1hour business meeting today, and I am glad I am not due back to work full time until next week. I'm tired and sore.

I am not really hungry. I am eating the diet prescribed by my dietitian. I have not lost any weight yet....feels weird. I thought for sure I would have lost 2kgs by now.

Anyway...for those facing the surgery...its not too bad. I most pain I have right now is the bruising on/in my stomach.

More later,

Right Size

No problem, my doctor was Dr Garrett Smith at North Shore Weight Loss Surgery operating out of North Shore Private Hospital (behind the ROyal North Shore Hospital in St Leonards).

So far it has been a very good experience.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?
