Almost to the pre-op diet...My story

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I hope this is the appropiate forum, just a quick background about me. I'm a African-American female, 24 years old and I have decided to get the RNY. I had my gallbladder out in November 2012 and my surgeon said I had fatty liver from being overweight and should consider WLS. At first I was angry because I didn't see myself as extremely obese and needing WLS. I had converted to vegetarianism in March of 2012 and went from 330lbs to 290lbs. I thought that I was on a road to healthy lifestyle and felt more confident than I ever had. But I chose to go see the nutritionist and do some research about WLS and see hwat happens. As of last month I decided to start the paperwork and today after my 5th visit (I have to do 7 for insurance) I've decided to go with RNY. I've been reading the threads on here and talking to people who've had both sleeve, lap band, and RNY. I was nervous for a while and people keep telling me that there are easier ways to lose weight. But I feel as though I need real help! I want to live a long and healthy life and I want the outside to look how I feel on the inside.

I have two visits left and my psych eval before they submit to the insurance company for approval. I'm so nervous; I'm scared they'll reject it and I will have gotten my hope up for nothing. Also, today I was given the pre-op diet. The nutritionist wants me to start earlier so that I'm not struggling 10 days before and I'll be used to it. Any suugesstions!?

Thats great....congrats on your decision. I'm getting the rny as well. You will do well...just make sure you get lots of liquids you like, crystal light, flavored water, and maybe even sugar free Jello if the nutritionist allows that. Do plenty to keep your mind off eating, read, write, work out, pamper yourself, blog, watch videos on youtube from others that have had rny or make your own vlog.

You are making the right decision for you and only the ones that choose to have this surgery truly know what each person is going through because we all can relate to one another. We all have made this to be healthy, feel good about ourselves and whatever other reason we think is important to us.

It's tough with summer and wanting to enjoy all the summer activities. I have so much going on but of like the surgery before the end of August so I'd hopefully be feeling normal for my 25th birthday in October!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?
